Heavy Equipment Operator Job Summary
This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, bobcats, loaders, rock trucks, and backhoes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operating heavy equipment and be able to safely maneuver and position heavy loads.
The Heavy Equipment Operator will also be responsible for ensuring safe work operations, performing pre- and post-inspections of the equipment, writing and keeping equipment logs, fueling and filling all the fluids in the equipment to the right level, and maintaining tidiness in the equipment.
Additionally, this role requires the ability to effectively follow and give directions, as well as meet the physical demands of the role, including sitting or standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 20kg, and working in various elemental conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, bobcats, loaders, rock trucks, and backhoes
* Ensure safe work operations and full compliance to operating procedures
* Perform pre- and post-inspections of the equipment
* Write and keep equipment logs
* Fuel and fill all the fluids in the equipment to the right level
* Maintain tidiness in the equipment
Requirements
* At least 2 years' operational experience in operating CAT and other surface mining, construction heavy equipment
* Valid Class 5 driver's license
* Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement (advantageous)
* Rigging, lifting, and hoisting certificate
* Proficiency in operating forklifts, skid steers, bobcats, loaders, rock trucks, and backhoes
* Willingness to train on excavators and bulldozers
* Able to effectively follow and give directions
* Able to meet the physical demands of the role
Preferred Qualifications
* Valid Mine Rescue Certificate (surface) compatible with Yukon OHS Mine Rescue Standard (OHS, 2016) and approved by Yukon WCB, or willingness and ability to undergo training to obtain such
* Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement
This is a fixed-term contract position with the potential to extend or convert into a long-term role in the future. Local candidates are preferred but we are open to candidates on a fly-in/fly-out rotational schedule of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
