Role overviewWe are looking for an HR Business Partner to support the business in Portugal within an international education organisation.
The role will act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and managers, translating business strategy into effective people initiatives while ensuring organisational performance, engagement and compliance with local labour regulations.This is a strategic and hands-on role, requiring strong business acumen and the ability to operate in a values-driven, people-centred environment.Key responsibilitiesAct as a strategic HR partner to business and school leadership teams, supporting organisational effectiveness and people strategy.Advise leaders on workforce planning, organisational design, performance management and talent development.Lead and manage employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with Portuguese labour law.Support change management initiatives in a growing and evolving international context.Partner with leaders on recruitment, ensuring high-quality hiring decisions.Contribute to compensation, benefits and annual review processes.Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures and best practices across the organisation.Use HR data and insights to support decision-making and anticipate risks.Promote a strong culture aligned with educational values, collaboration and continuous improvement.Coordinate with external partners when required (legal advisors, payroll providers, training partners).
Experience & qualificationsProven experience as an HR Business Partner or Senior HR Generalist, ideally within an international, matrix or multi-site organisation.Solid knowledge of Portuguese employment legislation.Experience working closely with senior stakeholders in advisory roles.Exposure to change management, performance and talent processes.Strong business mindset combined with empathy and credibility.Degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Psychology, Law or similar.Fluency in Portuguese and English is essential.Key competenciesHands on Strategic and pragmatic approach.Strong communication and influencing skills.High level of confidentiality and professionalism.Ability to work autonomously in complex environments.Collaborative, resilient and solution-oriented.
