HyLab is a collaborative research center located in Sines (Portugal), which targets the gap between the academic and industrial ecosystems in the implementation of green hydrogen to boost the energy transition and to tackle its challenges, along the entire hydrogen value chain.HyLab’s final goal is to create a worldwide reference Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+I) cluster with a strategic agenda focused on strengthening hydrogen competitiveness and creation of new products and services. Moreover, HyLab will foster innovation, addressing the relevant supply chain components to enable a hydrogen-driven economy and to promote skilled and value-added job creation.HyLab involves valuable national and international R&D institutes, academia, industry companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and hydrogen-related technology manufacturing industries.The position:HyLab is looking for an Economic and Financial Analyst to develop decision criteria based on the assessment of the competitiveness of the Green H2 market in Portugal and in Europe. The Economic-Financial Analyst will report to the Lead Research on Sustainable Hydrogen Economy and will have the mission to assess the competitiveness of the supplied H2 for the short, medium and long-term for several scenarios to be co-developed with stakeholders.You will be challenged with:Analysis of future levelized cost scenarios of competing energy vectors (electricity, natural gas, diesel, etc.) and of generated Green H2 for Portugal and within Europe via literature review of scientific and energy markets information, techno-economic modelling, and expert elicitation with key players;Assessing Green H2 value chain competitiveness comparing alternatives and considering the effect of policy measures (i.e., carbon prices);Carry out investment profitability studies regarding all aspects of fiscal incentives, inflation, evaluation of levelized costs, financial risk analysis, and analysis of reliable criteria for decision making;Identification of robust business cases (economic conditions, pricing, flexibility and security of supply, required investment, risks, etc.) for Green H2 market, designing possible business models;Assessment of legislation (and existing gaps) to design all the adjustments that need to be implemented for the Green H2-based product’s commercialization;Analysis of possible policy incentives identifying financial and non-financial mechanisms needed for promoting Green H2 in the most transparent, cost-effective and fair manner, including the identification of financial and contractual mechanisms to support investment under the governance of multiple players and interests;Participation in R&D projects related to the Green H2 energy transition;Preparation of project reports and support in the preparation of scientific tenders (regarding national, international and European projects); Participation in dissemination activities of the generated scientific knowledge (writing of scientific articles, conference papers and presentations) and participation in the supervision of Master/PhD students; Providing specialized services for the economic-financial support of new companies.Who are we looking for:PhD/master's degree in economics, finance or related fields;Economic and financial Experience in industrial and or infrastructural projects development;English proficiency;Why join us:• You will be challenged with unusual problems and will have the opportunity to uncover solutions with a high environmental impact;• You will be working in an innovative environment, together with some of the most knowledgeable researchers in Europe;• You will have a career as a Researcher in one of the most promising technologies in the energy industry;• You will have the opportunity to move to Sines, Portugal, or to work there at least for 3 days per week on the brand new HyLab headquarters;• Your talent will be rewarded with a competitive salary package.
