Jurist / Junior Lawyer – Focus on Tax & Regulatory Law Location: Funchal – Madeira Role Overview We are seeking a legally trained professional to join our team as a Jurist / Junior Legal Counsel .
This role focuses on supporting the organization's legal and regulatory responsibilities, particularly in the areas of tax law, contractual compliance, and cross-border operations .
You will engage directly in legal analysis, risk assessment, and day-to-day advisory work across departments.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to business security and strategic decision-making, especially in light of Madeira's regulatory frameworks and European law developments.
Key Responsibilities Analyze and interpret Portuguese and EU tax legislation affecting the business Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including service, commercial, and cross-border agreements Provide legal support on matters involving corporate taxation, VAT, and fiscal incentives, particularly related to the Madeira Free Trade Zone (Zona Franca da Madeira) Conduct legal research and issue internal memos on applicable laws and regulatory risks Ensure compliance with GDPR, labor law, and corporate governance obligations Liaise with external legal advisors, tax consultants, and public authorities as needed Support regulatory filings, internal compliance procedures, and documentation archiving Brief other departments on relevant legal updates, risks, or obligations Ideal Profile Degree in Law (Licenciatura em Direito) with at least 2 years of professional experience in legal practice, advisory, or in-house counsel settings Demonstrated understanding of Portuguese tax law and regulatory frameworks Comfort interpreting and drafting legal documents in both Portuguese and English Familiarity with the legal structure and incentives of the Zona Franca da Madeira is a strong plus Experience advising on cross-border commercial operations within the EU Autonomous, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple legal threads simultaneously High sense of responsibility, discretion, and capacity to communicate with non-legal teams Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in supporting multinational or pan-European operations;
- Working knowledge of intellectual property, entertainment/media law, or international contracts is a plus;
- Comfort handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines independently;
- Experience ordemonstrable interest in legal compliance matters related to the Zona Franca da Madeira (Madeira International Business Centre)
