We are in constant transformation and looking for a self-motivated and proactive Head of Operations - Corporate & Investment Banking to join our team in Lisbon.
Role Objective
Lead the Operations function for Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) in an integrated manner, ensuring end-to-end operational excellence, efficiency, scalability, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.
The role is responsible for defining the operational strategy, leading transformations across processes, people, and technology, and ensuring alignment with the global business strategy and the highest standards of customer service.
The role includes managing the areas of Business Operational Support (Onboarding and AML), Middle Office (trade validation and documentation, support to the commercial teams, margin and collateral control, product control, and regulatory reporting for derivatives and securities), and Back Office (cash and securities settlement, reconciliations, and reporting to the central bank).
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Strategy and Transformation
* Define and implement the operational strategy for CIB and Institutional clients (namely Swap Dealer related), supporting sustainable business growth.
* Lead digital transformation initiatives, automation, process redesign, and modernization of operational platforms.
* Leverage data, analytics, and artificial intelligence to increase efficiency, scalability, and risk reduction.
* Ensure alignment with global standards, market best practices, and regulatory requirements.
2. Operational Excellence, Efficiency, and Scalability
* Ensure daily operations are executed with high levels of quality, accuracy, and adherence to SLAs and KPIs.
* Promote continuous improvement through process review, automation, and system optimization.
* Manage operational costs (direct, indirect, and allocated) and identify efficiency opportunities.
3. Management of Operational Areas
* Oversee areas such as Back Office, Business Operational Support, and Middle Office (as described above).
* Ensure end-to-end integration across teams, promoting efficient processes and a strong customer focus.
* Manage capacity, productivity, and development of operational teams.
4. Governance, Risk, and Controls
* Implement robust governance frameworks, internal controls, and operational risk management practices.
* Work closely with Compliance, Risk Management, Finance, and Internal Audit.
* Ensure compliance with local and international regulators and monitor audit action plans.
5. Stakeholder Management and International Collaboration
* Act as the focal point between Operations, business units, Technology, Compliance, and global stakeholders.
* Manage relationships with vendors, custodians, correspondent banks, and external partners.
* Collaborate with teams in Brazil and other relevant jurisdictions.
Required Profile
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in CIB and Institutional Clients operations or similar financial services environments.
* Proven track record in leading complex operational environments and large-scale transformations.
* Strong knowledge of CIB, Swap Dealer and Institutional Clients products and their regulatory requirements, namely Swap Dealer and CFTC guidelines about the operational requirements.
* Extensive experience in project management, initiative portfolios, and change management.
* Proficiency in process optimization tools and methodologies, automation, BPM, Data Analytics, and RPA.
* Ability to lead large and multicultural teams.
* Excellent communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
Academic Background
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Management, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related fields (preferred).
* Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
