The Systems and Robotics Institute - University of Coimbra (ISR-UC) opens the call for applications for one (1) Research Grants for Students (BIC) in the scope of the Scientific Research Project – PRR Agenda “Embalagem do Futuro”, Supported by the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the Next Generation EU European Funds.
Scientific Area:Biomedical Engineering
Application profile: Master's student in the field of instrumentation.
Work plan: The selected candidates will work in R&D, with the tasks in the work plan being as follows:
* Work on developing ultra-thin strain/load sensors for smart packaging applications.
Location: The works will take place at the Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica – Universidade de Coimbra.
Duration: The contract is expected to start in June 2025 and will last for period of 6 months. Possibly renewable, up to the maximum deadline of the project duration.
Selection method:Curriculum evaluation (100%). If the Jury deems it necessary, an interview can be conducted to the candidates placed in the first three positions according to the ranking resulting from the previous criteria. In this case, the final score will include the curriculum evaluation with a 50% rating, and the interview, with a 50% rating. If none of the candidates has the appropriate profile (global assessment below 50%), the scholarships will not be awarded.
Selection and attribution criteria:
In the curricular evaluation will be considered the following criteria: global merit of the curriculum vitae (40%) and adequation of the candidate to the project (60%).
In the interview (if it occurs) for the best 3 candidates of the Curricular Evaluation, the motivation degree and the commitment for the task to develop will be taken into consideration.
The candidates with a final evaluation of 3.5 in the scale of 5 values will be excluded. The jury reserve the right to don’t attribute the Contract in the case of no candidate has the required profile.

Publication of the results: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the contract. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
