Offer Description
A call is open for the award of one (1) Research Fellowship for Master’s degree holders, funded internally by COFAC through the SeedFunding programme, within the framework of the Work Plan of the project “ECS | European Citizen Science”, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Urban Planning
Work plan:
* Identification and collection of primary texts, as well as gathering and processing of diverse information for insertion into the database;
* Reading, processing and discussion of documentary information concerning participatory processes and citizen science;
* Development of spatial modelling exercises (ArcGIS);
* Development and organisation of fieldwork (spatial qualitative analysis);
* Management and editing of communication materials, aligned with the communication and dissemination strategy of the ECS Project.
Host institution:
The fellowship activities will be carried out at the Research Centre in Territories, Architecture and Environment of Universidade Lusófona, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Carlos Smaniotto Costa (Project Coordinator).
Duration of the fellowship:
The fellowship will last for 6 months, starting on 1 November 2025.

Specific Requirements
Applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:
* Required academic qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Development, Master’s degree in Geography and Development, and enrolment in a PhD programme in Urban Planning (preferential factor);
* Proficiency in Portuguese;
* Proficiency in English (spoken and written);
* Theoretical and empirical knowledge of the required scientific area (previous research experience in projects in the same field will be considered a preferential factor);
* Ability to use geographic information systems software, namely ArcGIS (preferential factor);
* Experience in spatial and qualitative research methods;
* Experience in collecting and processing data for the production of content for digital platforms (databases, websites and/or social media).
Monthly maintenance allowance:
The monthly amount of the fellowship is €1,309.65, in accordance with the table of values for fellowships directly awarded by FCT, I.P. in Portugal ( https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2025 ).
This amount is supplemented by voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level, if the candidate chooses to enrol, as well as personal accident insurance.
The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
The fellowship is carried out on an exclusive basis, under the terms of Article 5 of the Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow.
Selection process
Selection methods:
Candidates will be selected by a jury composed of Professor Dr. Carlos Smaniotto Costa (Project Coordinator), Professor Dr. Diogo Mateus (Director of the Urban Planning Programme) and Professor Dr. Mohammed Boubezari (Coordinator of Urban Planning), based on curriculum evaluation, which may be complemented by an interview.
The curriculum evaluation will account for 75% of the final score and the interview for 25%. Should the jury decide not to conduct interviews, the curriculum evaluation will represent 100% of the candidate’s assessment.
Publication/notification of results:
The final results of the evaluation will be publicised through a provisional ranked list, posted in a visible and public place at Universidade Lusófona.
Candidates may submit complaints within 10 working days from the date of posting/publication of the final classification list.
The selected candidate will be notified by email.
