Position Overview:
We are seeking a
qualified and detail-oriented Geologist
to support our work with national geological archives and mining data. The successful candidate will analyze and structure information from EDM and DGEG archives, develop a comprehensive tailings database, and communicate with landowners and relevant stakeholders. This role requires strong analytical abilities, familiarity with mining documentation, and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect, review, and interpret geological and mining documentation from EDM and DGEG archives.
• Build and maintain an organized database of tailings (mining waste deposits), including classification, location, and technical characteristics.
• Identify, catalogue, and verify historical mining sites and related datasets.
• Compile and analyse historical grade data to prioritise tailings for economic evaluation.
• Produce GIS layers and spatial datasets for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal technical teams to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
• Engage with landowners and site holders to coordinate access, validate information, and address project-related questions.
• Prepare reports, summaries, and technical documentation based on collected data.
• Support geological assessments and preliminary evaluations of tailings sites as needed.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience working with geological archives, mining documentation, or spatial datasets is an advantage.

Experience working in EDM, DGEG, LNEG or similar organizations
will be considered a strong plus.
• Knowledge of documentation standards and data systems used by Portuguese mining authorities (EDM, DGEG) is highly beneficial.
• Experience with GIS platforms (QGIS or ArcGIS).
• Ability to structure and systematize large volumes of historical and technical data.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.
