Admission requirements: Master's degree in Bioresource Engineeringor a related scientific area and enrollment in adoctoral program or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit. Proven experience, demonstrated by scientific/academic publications and/or conference communications, inthe use of extraction techniques for bioactive compounds from food matricesandphytochemical characterization of extracts.
In case the master’s degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.
Working plan: The work plan includes (1) Extraction optimization of bioactive compounds from agricultural residues using sustainable extraction techniques; (2) Evaluation of different parameters to maximize efficiency and selectivity in residue fractionation; (3) Phytochemical and nutritional characterization of the obtained extracts; (4) Evaluation of antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of the extracts; (5) Cytotoxicity and bioavailability assays of the extracts; (6) Life cycle analysis.
Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 8 months, possibly renewable for equal periods for up to 18 months, starting on January 2026.
Monthly stipend:
Monthly stipend is €1.309,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal(https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria: The selection methods will be based on the candidate’s CV. The following para meters will be assessed: Master's degree grade (30%); demonstrated research experience in chromatographic, spectrophotometric, and bromatological analysis (35%); overall scientific coherence of the CV, including diversity and quality of scientific indicators (25%); and a motivation letter (10%).
If candidates' scores differ by 10% or less from the highest-ranking candidate's, the panel will interview the highest-ranking candidate and the candidates in this position. In this case, the interview will be weighted 30%.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
