NOTICE OF THE OPENING OF A CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANTS
The Polytechnic of Leiria opens a call for the award of 1 Research Scientific fellowship (BI-******) - Licensed, within the scope of MARE - IPLeiria, project "Innovative strategies for the conservation and integral valorization of arbutus in the food industry", reference COMPETE****-FEDER-********, funded by Compete****, under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Food Engineering, Biotechnology, Food and Biological Sciences or in areas considered related.
Target audience: Master's, integrated master's or master's students enrolled in non-degree courses in the area of food engineering, biotechnology, food and biological sciences or in areas considered related.
Duration of the fellowship: 8 months, eventually renewable until the end date of the project or up to the maximum duration limit of this type of fellowship (whichever occurs first), scheduled to start in *******.
Work plan:
Study of the valorization of arbutus, namely analysis of properties of arbutus, study of technologies for the extraction of functional compounds from arbutus and their characterization.
Technologies for the conservation of fresh arbutus.
Study of the shelf life of products developed from arbutus.
Promotion and dissemination of results, namely in the writing of scientific and technical articles and good practice booklets, and participation in dissemination activities of the project.
Host entity and scientific supervision: The work will be developed at MARE - IPLeiria, under the scientific supervision of the professor(s) Doctor(s): Ana Augusto.
Financial and Payment
Monthly maintenance allowance of €*******, according to the FCT, I.P. table of values.
The grant holder will benefit from Personal Accident Insurance during the course of the grant.
The amount will be processed monthly by bank transfer to the account identified by the fellowship holder.
Application Process
Applications must be addressed to the president of the jury and submitted on the link, by sending the application form accompanied by the following documents:
Documents proving ownership of the academic degree and/or diploma(s) required in the competition, with indication of the final average and the classifications obtained by curricular unit.
Document proving enrollment and enrollment in a cycle of studies or course not conferring an academic degree.
Updated Curriculum Vitae of the candidate.
Documents proving other evaluation parameters indicated in the application notice.
Motivation letter.
Other certifications and/or other documents considered relevant by the candidate.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates:
a) National citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union;
b) Third-country nationals;
c) Stateless persons;
d) Beneficiaries of political refugee status.
Selection Criteria
The evaluation will be made through curriculum analysis, experience in research and innovation activities, motivation and interview, focusing on the candidate's overall merit.
Criteria:
Academic Background (15%)
Final degree grade (15%) – e.g., Bachelor's degree grade of 10 equivalent to 10 points.
Relevant Technical-Scientific Experience (35%)
Laboratory experience in Food Sciences / Biotechnology (15%) – more than 6 months, up to 6 months, reduced experience, no experience with point values.
Experience in relevant analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, spectrophotometry, extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds, microbiology, product shelf life tests (15%) – proven practical experience in at least two relevant techniques, etc.
Experience in the development or characterization of food products (5%) – proven experience in development/formulation/conservation trials, etc.
Scientific Production and Dissemination (10%)
Scientific Publications (5%) – two or more scientific articles published or accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, one article, a submitted article, a book chapter, etc.
Scientific dissemination and other technical-scientific products (5%) – three or more scientific communications with presentation, two, one, participation in congresses, etc.
Letter of Motivation and Suitability for the Project (20%) – excellent, high, average, reduced, no motivation with point values.
Interview (20%) – classification on a scale of 0 to 20 evaluating technical knowledge applied to the work plan, ability to solve laboratory problems, critical thinking, experimental design, scientific communication skills, overall adequacy to the project.
Failure to attend implies exclusion.
Final Classification: Candidates will be ranked according to the weighted average obtained in the five criteria, calculated as:
Final Grade (NF) = (A×0.15) + (B×0.35) + (C×0.10) + (D×0.20) + (E×0.20).
Candidates with a final evaluation lower than ten points will be excluded from the competition.
Additional Notes
Foreign qualification holders must present documents proving recognition of the foreign degree to the Portuguese system or the jury will establish conversion.
Academic degrees obtained abroad require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. ******* and Ordinance No. *******.
The presentation of the certificate is mandatory for the signature of the contract.
