Overview
Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is seeking a talented Computer Vision and Generative AI Scientist to join our multidisciplinary Intelligent Systems Group. You will contribute to applied research projects that bridge cutting-edge research and real-world impact, with a focus on synthetic data generation to improve privacy and robustness of ML models.
Your role involves working at the forefront of AI innovation to create technologies that transform industries and improve quality of life.
Responsibilities
* Synthetic Data Generation:
o Research and develop methods for synthetic image generation, including controllable strategies (e.g., image and text conditioning) for high-quality, realistic synthetic data;
o Explore few-shot adaptation of general-purpose CV-GenAI models for specialized domains (e.g., agriculture and health);
o Design and implement evaluation frameworks to assess synthetic data quality and its suitability for real-world use cases.
* Evaluate data quality (real and synthetic) and model performance, identifying gaps or vulnerabilities;
* Integrate synthetic data into auditing workflows, determining where it can be an asset;
* Collaboration and Maintenance:
o Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate synthetic data strategies into existing pipelines and platforms;
o Maintain and refine current codebases, following best practices in software development and reproducible research;
o Contribute to strategic discussions on advancing research directions, staying updated on ML methods related to synthetic data and model auditing.
Your Profile / Qualifications
* Mandatory Requirements
o Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering.
* Technical Skills
o Programming in Python with experience in PyTorch or TensorFlow;
* Generative Models: Experience with Diffusion Models, GANs, VAEs, or other generative architectures;
* Evaluation of Synthetic Data: Understanding of metrics to measure fidelity, privacy, and robustness of synthetic datasets.
1. Other skills
* Excellent English communication (technical and general audiences);
* Ability to translate research findings into actionable real-world applications.

Selection process
Admitted candidates will be subject to curricular evaluation. Based on results, top-ranked candidates will be invited for an interview. All applicants will be notified of the results via the email provided in their application. After notification, all candidates have 10 days to comment.
