Responsibilities
The digital content editor/QA will perform editing and quality assurance of digital educational learning
experiences for students in Portugal in grades 1 to 9 in math, science, and Portuguese language (native and non-native). This project is part of a program led by Portugal's Ministry of Education (Directorate-General for Education (DGE)).
The publishing platform is based on Open edX, and work will include reviewing a high volume of learning assets produced with AI tools in a "content factory" environment. Checks will include editing and quality assurance of Word documents as well as user experience, functionality, and accessibility standards on the publishing platform.
This is a contract position required for the period between March and mid-May of 2026, with possible continued work after this time frame.
Responsibilities include:
* Performing editing and post-publishing functional quality assurance in European Portuguese and English at the document and published content stages to meet the high standards and usability-specific requirements of the client.
* Editing errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and adhering to style guides and editorial policies.
* Validating that courses conform to established guidelines, including WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards, using specified tools and manual processes.
* Logging issues and errors in a detailed and specified format to ensure efficient and accurate fixes.
* Completing checks quickly and accurately according to project checklists and established deadlines.
Qualifications and skills
Required
* Fluency in European Portuguese (written and spoken).
* Strong proficiency in English, with the ability to review and validate content originating from English source documents.
* Experience in proofreading, editing, or technical testing roles involving user experience and platform functionality, including reviewing assets produced by AI.
* Outstanding writing and proofreading skills.
* Superior attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, and a desire for accuracy in job performance.
* Ability to follow client and company style guides and best practices.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with colleagues at all levels.
* Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to track multiple projects and communicate progress to others on the team.
* Quick learner with the ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues.
* Critical thinker and creative problem solver.
* Three years of experience in proofreading, editorial, writing, or technical testing roles.
Preferred
* Experience using content management systems and related tools such as Open edX, H5P, and Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams) is preferred.
* Experience working with content produced by AI tools or other experience with AI, including prompt engineering.
* Experience in the education (grades K-12, cycles 1, 2, and 3) or edtech fields and content development industry space, particularly Open edX, is preferred.
* Accessibility credentials that would be helpful include Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA), and US DHS Trusted Tester (TTv5) if in the US.
