Director of Development Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Director of Development to lead our product development team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, project management, and technical leadership.
About the Role:
* The Director of Development will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from concept to launch and iteration.
* Responsibilities include planning, estimating, prioritizing, and executing projects and tasks, as well as defining and maintaining product requirements documentation.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality products on time and within budget. They will also be an excellent communicator, able to partner with cross-functional teams to drive growth and brand objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the development team and grow DesignRush products, overseeing four key values:
o Agency Rankings: view qualified agencies based on their expertise, location, clients, and factors
o Awards: enter finest work and compete for design awards
o Marketplace: post projects at no cost and receive proposals from verified agencies
o Spotlight: feature expertise and achievements via news, interviews, and articles
2. Plan, estimate, prioritize, and execute necessary projects and tasks, maintaining a full product lifecycle from concept to launch and iteration
3. Define and maintain product requirements documentation that translates business briefs into actionable development plans
4. Partner with SEO, Design, and Marketing teams to ensure every product enhancement aligns with growth and brand objectives
5. Drive UX and UI improvements, focusing on mobile-first usability, accessibility, and conversion optimization
6. Lead technical development roadmap, prioritizing projects that improve performance, scalability, and site architecture
7. Run regular PDP sessions, 1-to-1 meetings, and team retrospectives to foster growth, accountability, and transparency
8. Monitor team morale, promoting a healthy balance between productivity and well-being
9. Facilitate cross-team collaboration between developers, designers, QA, and product managers
10. Oversee delivery processes, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and roadmap reviews
11. Act as culture leader, encouraging ownership, open communication, and continuous improvement
12. Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve development efficiency
Requirements:
* Exceptional organization and project management skills
* Proven knowledge in writing specification documents
* 5+ years of professional working experience in project management
* Strong passion for exploring and understanding customer needs
* Good working knowledge of project estimation techniques
* Web development experience is recommended
* Knowledge of PHP-based frameworks is a big plus
* Deep understanding of software development lifecycles
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to think, concentrate, and focus over long periods
* Strong understanding of SEO principles, web performance optimization, and conversion funnels
* Experience with Google Tag Manager, Analytics, and SEO tools is nice to have
* Excellent communication skills, especially in translating technical goals
* Ability to work EST working hours
