We have created a new Developer Relations team to engage directly with open source communities and developer-centric organizations. Our aim is to communicate our vision and products for a better open source development experience, and to gather feedback to shape our offerings and priorities.
Position: Developer Relations Engineer
This role requires a technical expert, strategist, and communicator with deep empathy for developers. It combines practical engineering skills with diplomacy across organizational boundaries. The ideal candidate is curious, innovative, and passionate about improving developer tools and experiences.
Location: We are building our initial DevRel team across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and American time zones.
Typical Responsibilities
* Participate in team product meetings, contributing insights from strategy to daily development.
* Engage with developer communities via IRC, social media, forums, meet-ups, and more.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent approaches and messaging.
* Assist in resolving technical issues faced by users or colleagues.
* Contribute to technical documentation to meet developer needs.
* Create technical articles, presentations, and workshops.
* Identify opportunities to enhance the developer experience.
* Present at conferences, meetups, and technical events.
Candidate Requirements
* Passionate programmer or developer with open-source experience.
* Experience developing and deploying software on Linux.
* Hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, containers, etc.).
* Understanding of current Linux packaging issues and trends.
* Active contributor to open-source communities and documentation.
* Excellent speaker and presenter.
* Effective at building trust and working with diverse perspectives.
* Willing to travel globally twice a year for events.
Preferred Skills
* Experience in developer advocacy or community roles.
* Familiarity with Ubuntu and Canonical products.
