Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Cloud Solutions Architect for a client based in Dublin, Ireland.
This Solution Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure and solutions.
They will collaborate with project stakeholder, project partners and business leaders to understand the business needs, develop a fit-for-purpose cloud strategy, ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, and cost-effective.
We require a Solution Architect that with proven experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The successful candidate would also have experience in Microsoft Azure.
A good understanding of Earth Observation technologies would be a significant advantage.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on AWS Solution Architect to lead the design and implementation of a data-driven decision-support platform initially.
The architect will oversee and coordinate the delivery of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and support the transition into a multi-year operational phase with iterative enhancements of the solution's functionality.
The role will focus on a single project initially, and extend to other projects within 12 months.
The implementation period will involve orchestrating multiple existing components within an AWS environment to create an integrated, scalable, and secure platform for data ingestion, data processing and analysis (including machine learning), and browser-based applications for visualisation of data and user interaction.
The data sources will include Earth Observation data (satellite imagery) and a broad range of geospatial datasets.
The solution architect will be responsible for defining and governing the end-to-end technical architecture, ensuring the solution meets user needs, solution performance objectives, compliance requirements, and is aligned with industry and AWS best practices (AWS Well-Architected Framework).
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Implementation:Develop cloud architectures, design solutions, and implement them on AWS.
Solution Development:Integrate existing semi-automated and disconnected components into a coherent, automated data processing pipeline.
Technical Architecture Design:
Data ingestion (incl. APIs, file transfers, and remote sensing data)
Secure storage and access controls for large-volume datasets
Data processing workflows (including geospatial processing and machine learning pipelines)
Scalable and performant data visualisation tools (e.g., dashboards, mapping interfaces)
Develop architecture diagrams (including system architecture, data architecture, deployment processes, etc).
Stakeholder Management: Work closely with project partners, client stakeholders, data scientists, developers, DevOps engineers, managed cloud service providers, and external stakeholders.
Cloud Migration:Assist with migrating applications and data to the AWS cloud.
Security and Reliability:Ensure solutions are secure, reliable, and meet compliance standards.
Performance and Optimization:Optimize cloud systems for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
Technical Advisor:Provide guidance on AWS services and features to technical and non-technical teams.
Continuous Improvement:Stay up-to-date with the latest AWS offerings and industry trends.
Problem Solving:Troubleshoot issues and monitor solution performance.
Collaboration:Work with other teams (engineering, development, operations) within AWS projects.
Standards:Ensure adherence to UK Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, security policies, and AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
Skills Required:
· Proven experience designing and delivering complex cloud-native architectures in AWS, including migration (or re-architecture) of existing software component or solutions to cloud environments.
Technical Skills:
Understanding of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, etc.).
Knowledge of cloud architecture principles and best practices.
Experience with virtualisation, networking, and security.
Familiarity with scripting and automation tools.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, Pullumi)
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of Earth Observation and/or Geospatial technologies
Soft Skills:

Industry Knowledge:
Understanding of cloud computing trends and best practices.

Experience working with Earth Observation or geospatial data (e.g., Sentinel, Copernicus datasets).
Knowledge of geospatial tools and platforms such as MapServer, OpenLayers, etc.
· Strong understanding of data engineering workflows, especially for geospatial and satellite imagery data.
Experience with data visualisation tools and Web Mapping Services (WMS).
Familiarity with UK public sector IT governance and security requirements.
