The Role...
As a Senior Database Engineer at Fanduel, you will work with our delivery teams to provide expert technical guidance and implement robust and scalable data solutions.
You will implement solutions to complex business problems while assuring availability and performance. You will provide ongoing consultation and advice to stakeholders about roadmap features and will drive database engineering while adhering to development best practices.
What You'll be Doing...
As a team player in an our team, working together to keep delivering at pace, scale and with demanded quality to support our products you will be able to:
* Work within a cross-functional teams (DevOps, Networking) to develop robust and scalable database systems.
* Analyse, evaluate and optimise database performance by monitoring resources, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, and fine-tuning queries.
* Implementing best practices for indexing, partitioning and caching to optimise system performance;
* Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-divisional teams.
* Ensure proper data governance, e.g. SOX compliance, and security policies are adhered to during design and implementation.
* Understand complex business flows and how they map to underlying data stores;
* Propose milestones and roadmap plans to enable timely delivery;
* Collaborate with software engineers and architects to ensure seamless integrations of applications and databases;
* Coach and mentor other engineers to implement high-quality solutions;
* Be able to leverage the above expertise to support other teams in your function so that we deliver the best product to our customers.
* Participate in on-call support rotation.
We hope you have…
* At least 5 years' experience as a Database Engineer or similar role.
* In-depth knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
* Expertise in Elasticsearch is required as well as a background in one of more of the following (PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MySQL).
* Design and implement scalable Elasticsearch clusters to support high-traffic, data-intensive applications.
* Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune Elasticsearch performance, including query optimization, shard management, and cluster scaling
* Develop and maintain indexing strategies, mappings, and search schemas that optimize performance.
* Ensure data security and compliance by managing access control, encryption, and data retention policies.
* Evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to enhance data reliability and scalability.
* Background in data modelling, database design and performance optimization.
* Proficient in SQL; Scripting ability in Python, Bash; Java/Scala programming ability desirable.
* Knowledge of AWS technologies: EC2 instance types, Storage Options, aws-cli, Route 53
* Well versed in the Linux Operating System: Tuning of databases as affected by storage, memory and network configuration.
* Ability to define and implement replication and redundancy policies.
Experience working with a high concurrency/transactional/available systems.
* Experience working with DevOps tools, i.e., Terraform, ansible, Jenkins
