· Hold a Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology or related fields (mandatory), in accordance with Article 6 of the Research Fellowship Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (“Regulamento n.º 950/2019, de 16 de dezembro”).
Specific Requirements
Preferred Requirements:
a) Experience in bioinformatics and/or computational biology;
b) Experience in programming using the Python language;
c) Experience in developing bioinformatics tools;
d) Experience with open-source practices and version control, particularly using GitHub;
e) Good knowledge of microbial genomics with emphasis on methods for their characterization, typing and classification;
f) Good knowledge of workflows for Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis, especially for infectious diseases outbreak detection and investigation;
g) Good knowledge in the evaluation and comparison of results from different bioinformatics tools used in genomic surveillance of infectious diseases;
h) Good knowledge of data visualization using Python. Previous experience on the development of bioinformatics solutions for interactive visualization of genomic sequencing outputs will be valued;
i) Familiarity with workflow management tools (e.g., Snakemake or Nextflow) and containerization and package management tools (e.g., Docker or Conda);
j) Proficiency in English (written and oral);
k) Strong sense of responsibility and good interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills;
l) Full and immediate availability.

Additional Information
The monthly value of the fellowship will correspond to the candidate's degree, according to the current value of fellowships awarded by the “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.pdf ). To this value, the Voluntary Social Security amount (1st stage) is added, with Accident Insurance being paid.

Selection process
Candidates who do not meet the previously mentioned criteria will be excluded. Candidates who do not submit a graduation certificate will also be excluded. The evaluation will focus on the assessment of academic background and professional experience in the areas mentioned above. The evaluation process will include two phases. In the first phase, the CV and the candidate's motivation will be evaluated. Subsequently, candidates who, in this first evaluation, achieve a score not lower than 12 points on a scale of 0 to 20 points will be called for a knowledge and skills assessment interview. The weighting for the final evaluation will be 50% for the curriculum evaluation and 50% for the interview. Candidates will be classified, and the candidate with the highest score will be accepted. In case of the first selected candidate's inability to accept the fellowship, the option will be the second-ranked candidate (and so on) according to the list ordered by the Jury of the recruitment process. However, the jury reserves the right to decide that none of the available candidates meets the minimum requirements to fill the vacant position, in which case a new recruitment process must be carried out.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the Genomics and Bioinformatics Unit, Department of Infectious Diseases, INSA, Av. Padre Cruz, 1649-016, Lisbon.
Scientific Guidance: The work will be carried out under the scientific guidance of Doctor Verónica Mixão and Doctor Vitor Borges of the Department of Infectious Diseases, INSA.
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 11 (eleven) months, with an expected start date in August, 2025, possibly renewable until the end of the project, depending on the available budget.
