We are looking for a Sommelier to join our 5-star hotel in an international group, located on the stunning Madeira Island.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of wines, countries, regions, and grape varieties
- Certificate in F&B
- Experience in a similar market
- Strong customer service skills
- Upselling skills
- Organizational skills, communication, and resilience
- Teamwork
- Desire and ability to train and develop staff to explain and sell wines
- Proficiency in Portuguese & English; basic German and French are a plus
- WSET certification is a plus
Main Responsibilities:
- Monitor wine orders for restaurants
- Provide wine service in the restaurants
- Ensure proper storage and stock availability of wines
- Make wine recommendations
- Support F&B team in developing food and wine pairings
- Serve wines at correct temperatures and with appropriate glassware
- Participate in suggestions for improvement
- Ensure a memorable customer experience
- Collaborate with the Bar Manager to draft the wine menu
- Maintain high levels of customer service to meet guest expectations
