Offer Description

The University of Maia hereby announces the opening of a call for the award of 1 (one) Research Fellowship (RF), hereinafter referred to as RF or Research Fellowship, under the terms of the Research Fellowship Statute and the following conditions:

1. FUNDING

The fellowship is funded by the budget of the R&D Project FSport_leggings – Development of leggings with multidirectional graduated compression, integrated in the CIDESD Hub (Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, and Human Development) at the University of Maia. The founding entity of the University of Maia is Maiêutica – Cooperative of Higher Education, C.R.L.

2. SCIENTIFIC AREA: Sports Sciences

3. WORK PLAN

The activities to be carried out by the fellow fall within the scope of the project FSport_leggings – Development of leggings with multidirectional graduated compression, namely the study of the impact of the developed leggings on comfort and sports performance during physical activity, as well as on muscle recovery capacity after exercise. Specifically, the work plan includes:
a. Supporting the organisation, collection, and processing of data from laboratory tests conducted to assess performance and recovery;
b. Preparing technical and scientific documents for the dissemination of results;
c. Participating in events for the promotion and dissemination of the project.

3. DURATION

The fellowship will be awarded on an exclusive basis for a period of 12 months, starting on 01/10/2025. Any extension is subject to request and prior approval by the competent bodies of the founding entity of the University of Maia.

Applicants who meet the above requirements are further required to cumulatively satisfy the following conditions:
a. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Sciences;
b. Be enrolled in the Master’s programme in Sports Training at the University of Maia.

3.3. Preferential Selection Criteria

The research fellowship will be preferably awarded to applicants who demonstrate:
a. Knowledge of laboratory techniques for the assessment of physical performance;
b. Knowledge of programming;
c. Proficiency in the English language;
d. Interest in, and suitability of the applicant’s profile for, scientific research activities developed within CIDESD;
e. Previous experience in participating in research activities in areas relevant to the proposed work plan.

Additional Information

5. DURATION OF THE FELLOWSHIP

The fellowship will be awarded on an exclusive basis for a period of 12 months, starting on 01/10/2025. Any renewal is subject to request and prior approval by the competent bodies of the founding entity of the University of Maia.

6. AMOUNT, FORM, AND PAYMENT PERIODICITY OF THE FELLOWSHIP

6.2. The fellowship is paid monthly by bank transfer.

6.3. All fellows are covered by a personal accident insurance related to research activities, funded by Maiêutica, C.R.L.

6.4. Fellows not covered by any social protection scheme may exercise the right to social security through voluntary social insurance, under the terms of the Code of Contributory Regimes of the Social Security Welfare System. In such cases, Maiêutica, C.R.L. assumes the costs resulting from contributions, under the terms and limits provided for in Article 10 of the Research Fellowship Statute.

a. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Sciences;
b. Be enrolled in the Master’s programme in Sports Training at the University of Maia.

3.3. Preferential Selection Criteria

The research fellowship will preferably be awarded to candidates who demonstrate:
a. Knowledge of laboratory techniques for the assessment of physical performance;
b. Knowledge of programming;
c. Proficiency in English;
d. Interest in, and suitability of the applicant’s profile for, the scientific research activities of CIDESD;
e. Previous experience in research activities in areas relevant to the proposed work plan.

Selection process

9. SELECTION METHODS

9.1. The evaluation of applications will be carried out through Curricular Assessment (60%) and an Interview (40%). Candidates will be ranked according to the following criteria.

9.2. Curricular Assessment (60%)

Based on the documents submitted in the application, the assessment will consider:
a. The candidate’s qualifications, in accordance with section 3.2 (40%):
– 20 points for case a;
– 15 points for case b;
– 10 points for case c.
b. Professional background, where applicable (20%).
c. The motivation letter, which should describe the candidate’s professional and/or academic path (40%).

9.3. The scores obtained in the Curricular Assessment parameters will be expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 points, rounded to two decimal places. Each candidate’s score will be the average of the evaluations made by each jury member.

9.4. Interview (40%)

The interview will evaluate the following parameters:
a. Candidate’s motivation (15%);
b. Overall appraisal of skills deemed relevant to the development of the work plan and suitability of the profile (85%).

9.5. The interview scores will be expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 points, rounded to two decimal places. Each candidate’s score will be the average of the evaluations made by each jury member.

9.6. Based on the overall evaluation, the jury will prepare a ranked list of candidates with the respective final classification, expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 points, rounded to two decimal places. In the event of a tie, the Chair will have the casting vote.

9.7. The jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if it considers that none of the applicants meet the required profile.

10. COMPOSITION OF THE SELECTION JURY

The Selection Jury is composed of the following members:

* Member: Professor Ana Sousa, Assistant Professor, University of Maia
* Member: Professor Fábio Nakamura, Associate Professor, University of Maia

11. APPLICATION PERIOD AND SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

11.1. The call is open from 21 August 2025 to 5 September 2025.

11.3. Applications must include the following documents:
a. Proof of academic degrees previously obtained by the applicant;
b. Curriculum vitae;
c. Motivation letter addressed to the members of the jury, describing the candidate’s professional and/or academic path, the reasons for applying, and the suitability of the applicant to the work plan described in point 4 of this Notice;
d. Declaration by the applicant, signed under honour, confirming that the work plan will be carried out on an exclusive basis;
e. Any other supporting documents deemed relevant.

11.4. Eligible candidates will be interviewed (remotely) on 12/09/2025, between 09:00 and 18:00.

12. REQUIREMENTS FOR GRANTING THE FELLOWSHIP

12.1. Research fellowship contracts are managed according to FCT regulations. The following documents must therefore be submitted, at the time of fellowship grant, for contractualisation purposes:
a. Copy of identification documents (civil, tax, and, when applicable, social security);
b. Copy of degree certificates of the academic qualifications held;
c. Copy of the enrolment/attendance certificate in the Master’s programme referred to in 3.2;
d. Statement from the supervisor assuming responsibility for the supervision of the work plan, pursuant to Article 5-A of the Research Fellowship Statute (template provided by FCT);
e. Work plan to be carried out.

12.2. The awarding of the fellowship is further subject to:
a. Full compliance with the requirements set out in this Notice;
b. The outcome of the evaluation of the application under the terms provided herein;
c. The absence of unjustified breach of duties by the applicant in any previous fellowship contract funded, directly or indirectly, by FCT.

12.3. Failure to submit the necessary documents to complete the contractualisation process within the deadline indicated in the communication of the conditional grant decision will result in the annulment of the award and the closure of the process.

13. PUBLICATION/NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

13.1. The evaluation results will be published in a ranked list, ordered by final score, on the website of the University of Maia – UMAIA (www.umaia.pt ), within a maximum of 10 working days after the closing date of the call. Candidates will be notified of the draft decision by email, for the purposes of a prior hearing, and will have 10 working days to submit comments. In the absence of any comments, the decision will become final.

13.2. If comments are submitted, the final decision will be communicated within 10 working days.

13.3. From the final decision, candidates may submit a complaint within 10 working days, or appeal to the highest executive body of the funding entity within 30 working days following notification of the final decision, in accordance with Article 12 of the FCT Research Fellowship Regulation.
