The team is located across Europe (founder based in Lisbon) and looking for a highly motivated, hardworking, adaptable, and curious individual to work across a wide range of areas. The portfolio of businesses include a highly innovative fintech start-up as well as a professional accounting, tax, and legal firm servicing high-net-worth individuals and corporations globally. This role would have exposure to both businesses. We are looking for a junior accountant to support the continued growth and success of these businesses. English language ability (written and spoken) is a must for this role.
Job Summary:
As the junior accountant, you will play a foundational role in providing comprehensive tax, finance, accounting, and legal services to a diverse range of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, small businesses, and companies. Ideally you will be highly motivated and willing to get qualified as an ACCA chartered accountant (support provided) whilst gaining experience across these areas. This is an excellent role for an eager graduate to gain professional international experience working directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake bookkeeping, accounting, and process improvement in relation to finances.
* Maintaining accounts receivables and payable ledgers.
* Invoice processing – payments, checking, coding, authorizations, and creating invoices.
* Operating bank accounts.
* Track and review cash, expenses, payroll records, etc as assigned.
* Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements in accordance with company, legal, and financial guidelines.
* Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
* Operate monthly payroll.
* Prepare monthly VAT returns.
* Apply understanding of accounting processes to identify gaps and propose continuous improvements measures.
* Assist with the preparation of tax returns, legal documents, and tax and legal advice for international matters.
* Conduct research and analysis of tax, finance, and legal issues to provide accurate and timely advice to clients.
* Support on operations within the fintech start-up, ensuring smooth integration and collaboration with the professional services division.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional customer service and effective communication.
* Contribute to the business marketing efforts and business development initiatives to attract new clients and enhance the business' reputation.
* Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings and managing correspondence.
* Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
* Open to those looking for their first job or experienced hires with between 1-3 years of experience, whether this has been within a start-up or accounting firm.
* Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
* A commitment to providing exceptional client service and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Self-starter attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, and adapt to change with a high degree of flexibility.
* Strong English language skills (written and spoken) as this will be the daily business language.
Salary: c. EUR 1,500 per month dependent on experience
