The team of over 100 smart, enthusiastic individuals is committed to providing top‐quality service to brokers and clients across a broad range of reinsurance products.Role OverviewThe Lead Data Engineer is a strong, dynamic, and hands‐on leader within the extended RE & ILS Tech Leadership Team, accountable for leading expert data engineers and managing, architecting, and building cloud‐based and on‐premise data solutions to support the organization's data strategy. This role requires balancing strategic technical direction—championing AI code generation, "everything as code," and Dev Ops maturity—with people‐leadership necessary to mentor and retain highly skilled data engineering experts.Key ResponsibilitiesChapter Leadership & Talent ManagementLead, recruit, mentor, coach, and nurture junior and mid‐level data engineers.Manage 1–4 direct reports and occasional partner resources.Drive performance management and calibration with other managers.Encourage a high‐performance culture and psychological safety.Promote best practices in cloud and Dev Ops, including "everything as code."Facilitate continuous learning and support adoption of AI code‐generation tools.Technical Architecture & Delivery ExcellenceArchitect and build new data solutions or products; support Po Cs with Azure, Snowflake, Data Iku, GCP, or AWS.Ensure data privacy, lineage, and governance by design.Own data products: ingestion, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and delivery.Deliver value incrementally, prototype, fail fast, and llaborate with the Data Science chapter to provide robust sandbox environments.Manage cost and future ownership of solutions.Support Governance & Architecture chapters with production analytics solutions, master data management, and data lineage.Strategy, Governance & InnovationInfluence senior stakeholders on high‐value business problems and overall design.Research, evaluate, and adopt new technologies; maintain EA processes.Advance Dev Ops maturity, cost monitoring, and automation.Lead secure, scalable, cost‐effective automation and self‐serve tooling for business ach less‐technical colleagues to support tool adoption.Reporting & Direct ReportsReports into the RE & ILS Head of Data.Direct line management of FTE data engineers in London or Lisbon and a few partner resources.Key partners: RE & ILS CTO, Head of Data, Lead Data Scientist, Product Managers, Product Owners, and strategic partners such as Google Cloud, Snowflake, Data Iku, Prefect, and Microsoft.Candidate ProfileThe successful candidate is a strong, dynamic, energetic senior data engineer who seeks a first people‐management role.
