EU Risk Officer (m/f)

Role description:

A multi-faceted role for a risk professional reporting to the EU Risk Manager by coordinating and supporting the European Risk Management team in carrying out risk management activities spanning across the various geographical locations of the European business unit.

The role plays a lead role in embedding Hiscox Group's Risk Management Framework in the European business unit, driving the delivery of the management of key risks and actively helping the first line enhance and embed a comprehensive but proportional internal controls environment.

Key responsibilities:

* Assessing, measuring, mitigating, monitoring and reporting of exposures and developing a keen understanding of the impacts of risk on our business; and helping to stay abreast of key market risk issues and regulatory requirements, trends and implications. Reviewing and challenging the design and monitoring of controls by the first line as well as provide advice and assistance to drive improvement. Ensuring that an effective and commercially sensitive Risk function operates that provides both assurance and risk management.
* Engaging risk and control owners to build knowledge of their business/functions, understand current and developing areas of risk, identify gaps and exposure areas and provide advice and opinions. Actively work to educate and provide risk management expertise to the first line and hold first line owners to account for addressing key risk and control issues.
* Assist with the preparation of papers and documents to be discussed at European Management team meetings, Audit & Risk Committee, and Board level.
* Provide support on key strategic transformation projects.
* Support the production of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) reports of Hiscox SA.
* Contribute to the delivery of regulatory requirements including submissions to the Luxembourgish regulator the Commissariat aux Assurances (the CAA).

Person Specification

* Knowledge of Risk Management practices within an insurance company including board governance, risk assessment, policies and procedures, risk measurement and risk reporting;
* Familiarity with relevant European insurance regulatory regimes (e.g. Solvency II);
* Quantitative background and/or experience in non-life insurance (e.g. accounting or actuarial) including business model, profitability drivers, underwriting and risk management practices.
* Driven, committed and passionate and willingness to strives for high quality.
* Autonomous, self-motivated and resilient: Ability to work in a fast changing and international environment.
* Ability to get into the low-level details of the business and consistently deliver quality second line challenge, support, and assistance to the business;
* Motivate and collaborate: leverage strong interpersonal skills to interact with, influence and encourage risk owners and business stakeholders to positively respond to questions, inquiries and requests for information; also, be genuinely open to receiving and integrating feedback.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working with people at all levels, you must be able to operate independently as well as being a strong team player.
* Organised and efficient: Ability to multi-task effectively, to prioritise work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work in a dynamic and complex environment.
* Fluent in English. Good knowledge of and proficiency in French, German, Portuguese, Spanish or Dutch would be a strong asset.
* Excellent use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power point) as well as familiarity with data analytics software, namely Power BI.
