Position: IT Support Technician
Location: British School of Lisbon (BSL) - Cais do Sodré & Restelo Campuses
Reports to: Headmaster / Senior Leadership Team
Overview:
The British School of Lisbon (BSL) is seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and highly organised IT Support Technician to join our small but dynamic team. Operating across two city-centre campuses (Cais do Sodré for Primary and Restelo for Secondary), the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting our students, staff and wider school community with all aspects of IT provision.
The British School of Lisbon is an Apple-designated school, and the majority of our IT infrastructure, including staff and student devices, operates within the Apple ecosystem. As such, this role requires a strong working knowledge of Apple hardware, macOS, iPadOS, and associated Apple management tools such as Apple School Manager and Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
This is a varied and hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, is confident working around children, and is willing to muck in as part of a close-knit school environment.
Key responsibilities:
1) General IT support
. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing front-line support to staff and students using Apple devices, maintaining the functionality and security of our Apple-based systems, and contributing to the continued effective integration of Apple technology within teaching and learning. Experience within an Apple environment, or a willingness to undertake relevant training, is therefore essential for this position.
. Day-to-day support for staff and students on IT-related issues across both campuses.
. Routine maintenance and management of all school devices, including firewalls, printers, interactive whiteboards, and internet infrastructure.
. User account management, including creation, updates, and password resets.
. Support with the maintenance and management of Google Classroom for teachers and students.
. Provide first-line support for software applications including SEN support platforms, library catalogue systems, and the Parent App.
2)Events & AV support
. Provide technical support at school events including assemblies, performances, and parent meetings.
. Set up and manage sound equipment, projectors, and video recording equipment.
. Edit video and audio content for school events and marketing purposes.
3) Website & app management
. Support the creation, updating, and maintenance of the school website and the parent app.
. The management of Mobile Device Management (MDM - Mosyle) across both campuses. Mosyle is used to manage all student devices.
. Manage relationships with other IT service providers (including the photocopier provider and the internet providers) and software partners, ensuring updates, security, and staff training are in place.
4) Staff training & guidance
. Provide IT inductions for new staff.
. Deliver occasional training sessions or quick guides for staff on school systems such as Google Classroom, Salesforce, and other internal tools.
5) Examinations & data management
. Prepare and configure IT systems for student assessments, internal examinations and external examinations.
. Support with the management and updating of student IT-related data, including parent communications.
Person specification:
1) Essential
. Previous experience in an IT Support or Technician role
. Confident, approachable, and comfortable working in a setting with children and young people
. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise a varied workload
. Strong technical skills with experience maintaining and troubleshooting firewalls, printers, whiteboards, and internet systems
. Experience supporting and managing Google Classroom and other education technology tools
. Ability to manage user accounts and security protocols
. Experience updating and maintaining websites
. Ability to provide clear IT support and training for non-technical users
2) Desirable
. Experience working in a school or education environment
. Familiarity with British international school systems
. Experience managing Salesforce platforms
. Video and audio editing skills
. Experience supporting IT for external examinations
. Basic knowledge of SEN (Special Educational Needs) support software
. Working knowledge of Mosyle MDM system
. Portuguese language skills (basic)
Additional Information:
. The role involves travel between two Lisbon campuses (approx. 15 minutes apart).
. Some flexibility in working hours may be required during events or external exams.
. All members of staff are expected to actively contribute to the life of the school and uphold BSL’s values.
