Finance Automation Specialist | Portugal | Contract or Permanent

A dynamic international technology company is transforming their Finance function and Financial Systems landscape. The company is scaling quickly and is looking to improve their Finance operations and deliver Automation and AI to support their continued growth.

They are looking for someone with strong Finance understanding, Accounting or Controlling) and proven finance automation experience to join their team.

Sitting in Finance, this role will map processes and identify and deliver Automation, leveraging AI and other finance systems tools.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Automation & AI Initiatives

Lead continuous improvement of finance processes by identifying inefficiencies and introducing automation and intelligent solutions to enhance operational performance. Evaluate, prioritize, and implement automation opportunities across finance workflows. Act as a key advocate for emerging technologies within the team, exploring practical applications of AI and promoting its adoption through clearly defined use cases.

Finance Systems & Technology Advisory

Provide strategic input on finance tools and systems that support business expansion. Leverage automation, AI, and machine learning capabilities to improve efficiency, flexibility, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Project Delivery & Collaboration

Contribute to and lead cross-functional projects such as system enhancements, new market or product initiatives, and organisational changes. Support implementation of new finance policies, reporting frameworks, and process improvements.

User Support & Knowledge Enablement

Offer day-to-day support to system users by addressing issues and responding to queries. Develop training resources and deliver workshops to encourage best practices and effective use of systems. Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for internal processes and tools.

What skills and background will I require?

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration (with a focus on IT), or a related discipline. Additional qualifications or certifications are advantageous.
• Approximately 7+ years of experience in finance operations, with hands-on involvement in finance systems and core processes (e.g., Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report).
• Strong interest in technology, with a willingness to explore and apply new tools to improve workflows and productivity.
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities, particularly in process optimisation and data accuracy.
• Well-organised, detail-focused, and confident in ensuring adherence to established processes across teams.
• Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Experience with automation tools such as UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, Zapier, Make, 8n8 or similar. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with Claude (Project, Skills, Cowork) and/or any other AI agent builder (Finance-oriented is preferable)
• Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
