Administrative Admission Requirements

Administrative admission to the competition depends on fulfilling the requirement: holding a Doctoral degree. If the doctorate was conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms set forth in Decree-Law No. 66/2018, published in the Official Gazette, 1st series, No. 157, of August 16. This formality must be completed by the time of contracting.


Absolute Merit and Evaluation

3 - Absolute Merit Approval: In the absence of grounds for rejection of applications, the Jury will deliberate on their approval or non-approval in absolute merit, by justified nominal vote, with abstentions not being permitted. A candidate is considered approved in absolute merit if approved by absolute majority of the voting jury members. Absolute merit approval depends on possessing an overall curriculum that the jury considers to have scientific and pedagogical merit, research capacity and developed activity, compatible with the disciplinary area of Ophthalmology and Anatomy, of the medical and biomedical sciences group (respectively) of FMUP, of Medical and Health Sciences, Clinical Medicine Ophthalmology (General Ophthalmology; Clinical Medicine; Clinical Research), and appropriate to the assistant professor category, as documented in the information presented for competition. For the purposes of the evaluation, the following criteria must be cumulatively fulfilled: 3.4.1 Hold a Degree or Integrated Master in Medicine; 3.4.2 Hold a Doctoral Degree in Medicine; 3.4.3 Have the Specialist degree in Ophthalmology; 3.4.4 Have published at least 3 scientific articles in Medical and Health Sciences, Clinical Medicine Ophthalmology (General Ophthalmology; Clinical Medicine; Clinical Research), as first author, by Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC) and with impact factor in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) or indexed by Scopus and with SCImago Journal Rank Indicator (SJR).


Evaluation and Ranking in Relative Merit

4 - Evaluation and Ranking in Relative Merit: Once candidates approved in absolute merit are definitively identified, they proceed to their ordering in relative merit, based on the aspects and ranking criteria, respective weighting and final valuation system, established in accordance with the provisions of No. 6 of article 50 of ECDU and article 16 of the Regulation. 4.1 - Methodology and Evaluation Aspects: Candidates approved in absolute merit are evaluated on: a) Scientific Merit (VMC) — 65%; b) Pedagogical Merit (VMP) — 25%; c) Other activities (VAO) — 10%. 4.2 - Evaluation Criteria: 4.2.1 - Scientific Merit (VMC) (65%): 4.2.1.1 - Scientific production (50%): quality and quantity of scientific production; 4.2.1.2 - Scientific intervention (15%): coordination and execution of scientific projects; supervision of postgraduate students; intervention in scientific community; mobility; other factors. 4.2.2 - Pedagogical Merit (VMP) (25%): 4.2.2.1 - Implementation of pedagogical projects (5%); 4.2.2.2 - Pedagogical activity (20%). 4.2.3 - Other Activities (VOA) (10%): measured by curricular relevance and other activities benefiting the faculty.


Jury Operation Method

5 - Jury Operation Method: 5.1 Candidate Scoring: Each jury member scores each candidate 0–100, on the basis of the disclosed selection criteria. 5.2 Final Result: The Final Result (RF) is the sum of classifications in each aspect, applied to the final ordering. 5.3 Jury Deliberations: Deliberations follow Article 17, No. 12 of the Regulation, with nominal voting and absolute majority required; ties are resolved by defined procedures, including potential casting vote by the President.

5.3.2 - Ranking Methodology: voting process to determine placements from 1st to last, with procedures for ties and eliminations until a single ordered list remains.


Applications

Applications must be mandatorily accompanied by the following documents:

1. Application form (personal data and declarations).
2. Degree or Integrated Master certificate and Doctorate certificate (proof of meeting points 3.4.1 and 2/3.4.2), except for degrees obtained at the University of Porto.
3. Document proving the Specialist degree.
4. Curriculum Vitae in Portuguese or English, with all information pertinent to evaluating the application and including a list of scientific publications with details as described in the notice.
5. One copy of each of the works mentioned that allow verifying the criteria of points 3.4 and 4.2; candidates may highlight up to ten representative works.


Documents and Submissions

6.3 - Documents must be submitted in Sigarra system; folders may be compressed but with a per-file limit of 720MB. No documents accessed via links will be considered, except for publications with DOI. Prefer non-editable formats. Non-compliance may lead to exclusion or non-admission as applicable.


Notifications and Hearing of Interested Parties

7 - Notifications: The Human Resources Service will notify candidates of admission decisions. There is a right to prior hearing. Notifications are by electronic mail. The period to respond in writing is ten working days.
