About Aiera
We're helping
, a fast-growing, well-funded American startup in the
financial technology
industry, to build their first
European engineering hub in the Algarve
.
Aiera develops a next-generation financial research platform, including its
own AI models tailored to financial markets
, used by institutional investors and financial professionals globally.
As a
Support Engineer (Internal Tools & Data)
in this new Algarve team, you'll sit at the intersection of
support, business, and engineering
, building and maintaining the tools that keep the organisation fast, informed, and effective.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
* High leverage role:
Everything you build helps
1st line Support and business teams
respond faster, with better data.
* Modern toolset:
Work daily with
ReTool
and
SQL
, creating proprietary control apps, dashboards, and workflows on top of real production data.
* Close to the business:
Collaborate directly with
support
team members in the Algarve office as well as
engineering and customer success
in the US
* Lifestyle + career:
Combine a technical role in a US-backed fintech with the celebrated mediterranean life style in the
Algarve
.
What You'll Work On
As a Support Engineer, you will:
* Use
ReTool
as the main platform to build and maintain
internal control apps
:
* Tools for
1st line Support
to quickly look up customers, sessions, events, and system status.
* Simple UIs for running
standard checks, workflows, and data fixes
(where appropriate).
* Help the
business side
(support, operations, sales, leadership) generate:
-----------------------------------
Operational reports
(tickets, response times, customer health signals).
-----------------------------------
Business analytics
around usage, customers, and platform behaviour.
* Design and maintain the
data pathways
for these tools:
* --Write and optimise
SQL queries
to fetch, aggregate, and join data from multiple sources.
* Ensure queries are reliable and performant, even as data grows.
* Build
new tools within ReTool
to:
* -- Automate repetitive lookups and manual steps.
* -- Give Support 1st line
clear "single screens"
for the most frequent questions.
* Collaborate with backend and DevOps engineers to:
* -- Request or refine APIs and endpoints needed for your tools.
* -- Ensure secure and appropriate access to production data.
* Document
how tools work
so support and business teams can use them confidently and independently.
From 2026 onwards, as Aiera's new AI-powered platform evolves, you'll help ensure
support tooling and reporting
stays in lockstep with new features and data sources.
Who We're Looking For
Must-have qualifications
* 3+ years
of experience in a
technical support, internal tools, data/analytics, or support engineering
role.
* Strong
SQL skills
: comfortable writing joins, filters, aggregates, and debugging slow queries.
* Hands-on experience with
ReTool
or a similar internal tooling / low-code platform (admin dashboards, internal apps, etc.).
* Ability to work with
APIs and JSON data
to plug external services or internal microservices into ReTool.
* Comfortable working
directly with non-technical stakeholders
(support, ops, sales, leadership) to understand needs and translate them into tools.
* Professional proficiency in English
(written and spoken).
* Willingness to work
2–3 days/week in the office
in the Greater Faro / Loulé area.
Nice-to-have
* Experience in
SaaS
or
fintech
, or with other data-heavy products.
* Basic knowledge of
Python
or another scripting language for light automation or data wrangling.
* Familiarity with
BI / analytics tools
(e.g., Looker, Metabase, Power BI, Mode).
* Experience working with
ticketing systems
(Zendesk, Intercom, etc.) and integrating them into internal dashboards.
Location & relocation
We're especially interested in candidates who are:
* Already
based in the Algarve
and seeking an international product/engineering environment,
or
* EU / EEA / Swiss / Brazilian citizens
(or others with the
right to work in Portugal without sponsorship
) who are interested in
relocating to the Algarve
.
How You Work (About You)
We look for people whose mindset matches Aiera's culture:
* You enjoy
helping others succeed
, and you see internal tools as a force multiplier.
* You're curious about the
business context
behind every request, not just the technical spec.
* You care about
clarity and reliability
: predictable tools, understandable error states, and good documentation.
* You're comfortable
wearing multiple hats
—sometimes building tools, sometimes debugging data, sometimes refining requirements.
* You communicate with
empathy and patience
, especially with non-technical colleagues.
* You value
taking initiative and getting things done
over rigid processes.
If you're energized by the idea of building
internal tools that power a mission-driven, AI-focused fintech
, and you'd like to grow your career in the Algarve, we'd love to hear from you.
