opens a call for
one Research Fellowship
in the field of Astronomy/Astrophysics at the Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA).
The
Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA)
is the most prominent Research Unit in the field of Astronomy/Astrophysics in Portugal, integrating researchers from the universities of Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra, and is responsible for a major fraction of the national productivity in international ISI journals in the field of Space Sciences.
Research and science communication at IA include topics and instrumentation at the forefront of research in Astronomy/Astrophysics and Space Sciences.
The position is offered in the context of the Funding for R&D Units, funded by Portuguese funds through FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (reference UID/**********).

.- Work plan:
The choice of the work plan by the approved candidate will be made from a list of proposals aligned with the scientific priorities of the IA [].
Proposed work plans will be made available to successful candidates.
This call for proposals covers the area of Astronomy and Astrophysics, and the work plan will be included in one of the IA research groups, namely:
Towards the detection and characterization of other Earths
Towards a comprehensive study of stars
The assembly history of galaxies resolved in space and time
Unveiling the dynamics of the Universe
Astronomical Instrumentation and Systems
Science Communication
The fellow will be integrated into the research programs of the IA teams.
.- Place of work:
The work will be carried out at CAUP (Porto node of IA), Rua das Estrelas, ********, under the scientific supervision of IA researchers.
.- Fellowship duration:
The fellowship should start between April and November **** and has a duration of 12 months.
.- Requirements for admission:
Applicants must have completed a BSc in Astronomy/Astrophysics or a related discipline and must be enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Porto at the start of the fellowship.
Applications from candidates with adequate background in Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics or related domains will be considered.
.- Additional skills and qualifications:
Having a Master's degree with a thesis in Astronomy/Astrophysics will be valued.

.- Selection criteria:
Evaluation based on
a) Cover letter (15%),
b) CV (60%),
c) Relevance of previous research experience (25%).
An ordered list will be defined by the Selection Committee; referees may be asked to provide reference letters.

.- Awarding of the contract:
Fellowship(s) offered according to the ordered list.
Minimum grade of 85% required.

Candidates have 10 working days to appeal after results announcement; appeals may be submitted to the CAUP Executive Board within 15 working days.

The fellow works under exclusive dedication as per the Research Grant Holder Statute.
.- Monthly allowance:
Approximately €1,****** (tax-free) per month, paid by bank transfer.
Personal accident insurance provided; optional social security via voluntary scheme under applicable law.
