The Opportunity
An international organization operating within the
travel, tourism and cruise industry
is looking to strengthen its Finance team with the recruitment of a
Junior General Ledger
. This role is based in Portugal under a Portuguese employment framework and reports directly to
Basel, Switzerland
, offering strong exposure to an international accounting environment.
Your New Role
As a Junior General Ledger, you will support key accounting activities within a centralized finance structure, contributing to accurate financial reporting, compliance, and audit processes. You will work closely with international stakeholders and support the Accounting team in both operational and period-end activities.
Key Responsibilities Include
Performing general ledger accounting tasks, including journal entries, month-end accruals, account reconciliations, and account analysis
Assisting with monthly and annual closing processes
Downloading system reports and preparing structured accounting documentation for year-end processes
Maintaining financial records and documentation in line with internal policies and compliance requirements
Responding to inquiries from internal and external parties (employees, vendors, auditors, etc.)
Reviewing and processing travel and expense reports across multiple business functions
Supporting payroll reporting preparation and reconciliation activities
Assisting Accounts Payable with query resolution, AP confirmation letters, and monthly subledger reconciliations
Reviewing financial data to identify discrepancies or potential issues
Supporting the preparation of quarterly and annual audit documentation
Preparing fixed asset reports and creating fixed asset cards
Assisting with intercompany and prepaid postings and related communications
Performing administrative accounting tasks as required
Supporting ad hoc projects assigned by the Finance Department
What You'll Need to Succeed
Attendance of a professional or university course in
Accounting
(degree completion not mandatory)
Minimum
2 years' experience
in a similar accounting or general ledger role
(alternatively, 5+ years of relevant experience without formal accounting education)
English level C1
(mandatory)
Strong proficiency in
Excel
and other MS Office tools
Strong organizational and planning skills, with a methodical and analytical mindset
Ability to multitask and apply critical thinking
Team-oriented attitude, humility, and willingness to learn
Knowledge of
Microsoft Dynamics 365
is considered an advantage
Availability for
occasional travel to Basel
, mainly for training purposes
Preferably residing in
Vila Nova de Gaia
and demonstrating professional maturity
