Job description Location: Lisbon, Portugal Hotel Category: 4-Star Full-Service Hotel Position Summary: The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of a 4-star hotel in Portugal.
The GM ensures exceptional guest satisfaction, strong financial performance, compliance with Portuguese regulations, and alignment with brand standards (if applicable).
The role requires a dynamic hospitality professional with strong commercial acumen, operational expertise, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management Oversee all hotel departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Maintenance, Sales & Marketing, and Finance.
Ensure service standards meet or exceed 4-star classification requirements and guest expectations.
Monitor daily operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and profitability.
Maintain high levels of cleanliness, safety, and maintenance throughout the property.
2. Financial Performance Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts.
Drive revenue growth through effective pricing strategies, occupancy optimization, and cost control.
Monitor KPIs such as ADR, RevPAR, GOP, and EBITDA.
Analyse financial reports and implement corrective measures where necessary.
3. Guest Experience & Reputation Management Ensure exceptional guest satisfaction and oversee resolution of guest complaints.
Monitor online reputation (e.G., OTA platforms, review sites).
Foster a guest-centric culture across all departments.
4. Sales & Marketing Lead revenue strategies in collaboration with the Sales & Marketing team.
Develop partnerships with tour operators, corporate clients, and local businesses.
Promote the hotels brand positioning within the competitive Portuguese hospitality market.
5. Human Resources & Leadership Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate department heads and staff.
Promote a positive workplace culture aligned with Portuguese labor laws and company values.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and employment regulations in Portugal.
Implement staff development and performance management programs.
6. Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with Portuguese tourism regulations and safety standards.
Maintain licenses, certifications, and insurance requirements.
Oversee health and hygiene standards in line with national regulations.
Qualifications & Experience: Bachelors degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 510 years of progressive hotel management experience, preferably in a 4-star or 5-star property.
Strong financial and revenue management expertise.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Fluency in Portuguese and English (additional languages such as Spanish or French are an asset).
Strong understanding of the Portuguese hospitality market.
