Who We're Looking For We're seeking a committed and experienced Special Education Coordinator who will: Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment across the school.
Lead the Well-Being Department (our learning and emotional support team) with vision and clarity.
Coordinate and facilitate the EMAEI Team meetings with purpose and efficiency.
Stay up to date with relevant laws and regulations, ensuring full compliance with the Portuguese National Curriculum and the Cambridge Curriculum.
Establish and manage consistent routines and procedures for learning support.
Collaborate with Heads of Section to effectively prioritize student support.
Conduct detailed pedagogical assessments to identify and address individual learning needs.
Equip teachers and assistants with strategies to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
Provide direct instructional support to students in both Portuguese and English.
Take ownership of all learning support documentation, formalities, and meetings in coordination with Head Teachers.
Communicate regularly and thoughtfully with families, providing updates and addressing concerns in partnership with Head Teachers.
Observe and co-teach in classrooms to enhance instructional practices.
Monitor, evaluate, and refine intervention strategies to ensure impact and effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience We're looking for candidates who bring: A degree in Education, along with certification in Special Education.
At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience, and a minimum of 3 years working in Learning Support.
Proven experience leading a team of special educators.
A strong track record of supporting students with diverse learning needs at multiple educational levels.
Expertise in pedagogical mapping and planning individualized learning support.
Experience designing and delivering professional development for educators.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work as part of a dynamic team.
Familiarity with both the Portuguese and Cambridge International Curricula.
Strong classroom management and a deep understanding of differentiated instruction.
Experience with active, inquiry-based, and project-based learning approaches.
Fluency in both English and Portuguese.
The ability to build genuine, respectful relationships with students and families.
