Sr Tax Accountant
Location: Sheffield
Aptean is seeking an EMEA Sr Tax Accountant (5-6 years of experience) to join our Sheffield office. This hands-on role involves broad responsibilities, including ensuring timely and compliant filing of direct and indirect tax returns for a portfolio of EMEA entities within a fast-paced, private equity-backed group. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, focusing on process improvements and efficiencies as the company continues to grow through acquisitions. The role offers exposure to a wide range of tax topics across Europe, alongside overseeing daily compliance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing year-end tax returns, coordinating with local advisors to ensure compliance across countries including the UK, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Poland, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Spain, Finland, and Sweden.
- Calculate and submit advance tax payments for these countries.
- Supervise VAT return filings, address queries, and ensure compliance.
- Support ad hoc tax compliance issues, research with advisors, and coordinate process changes internally.
- Handle R&D claims.
- Ensure transfer pricing calculations are accurate and coordinate revisions if needed.
- Submit tax residency certificates across EMEA.
- Assist with accounting and reconciliation of tax accounts in the region.
- Support year-end global provisions for consolidated group audits under US GAAP.
- Assist with implementing tax engine and e-invoicing software to comply with the European Commission's VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) proposal.
- Help address the impact of BEPS 2.0: Pillar One and Pillar Two on the group.
Skills & Experience
- Solid knowledge of technical accounting principles, backed by a recognized professional qualification.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated with a proactive attitude, capable of working within a matrix organization.
- High attention to accuracy, data integrity, and process improvements.
- Flexible, adaptable, and experienced in change management and handling pressure calmly.
- Excellent analytical skills, capable of analyzing large datasets and summarizing effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Availability to work four days a week in the office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Required: Understanding of accounting standards and experience working in a tax department; experience with European taxes, not necessarily in every country we operate in, but across the region.
- Preferred: Experience in accounting/finance within the global software industry.
- Recognized accounting qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
