ROLE SUMMARY:
St. Peter’s International School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of English to lead the English department across our International Section, with a focus on the IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme. This is a key leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering an outstanding English curriculum, inspiring excellence in teaching and learning, and supporting students from Early Years to Year 13.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the planning and delivery of English Language and Literature within the IGCSE and IB Diploma frameworks
* Ensure seamless curriculum progression and high-quality teaching across year groups
* Develop and oversee tailored strategies to support EAL learners within the International Section
* Collaborate with colleagues across the Portuguese National and International Sections to align practices and improve student outcomes
* Lead the assessment and tracking systems across the department, using data to inform teaching, interventions, and enrichment
* Manage and support the professional development of the English teaching team, fostering a collaborative and aspirational department culture
* Oversee department resources, including budget management and instructional materials
* Promote literacy across the school, working with the library team to integrate reading and research across age groups
* Contribute to wider school policies and academic planning, including reporting and parent communications
* Participate in whole-school improvement initiatives and help shape the future strategic direction of English provision
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
* Expertise in English Language and Literature with experience teaching IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme.
* Proven leadership experience in an academic setting, ideally international.
* A passion for promoting high standards and inspiring a love of learning.
* Experience supporting EAL learners through differentiated strategies.
* Strong communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.
* Familiarity with or interest in the Portuguese education context is an advantage.
