The Opportunity
We are seeking a qualified and disciplined Financial Controller to oversee the accounting department and ensure financial compliance and accuracy. In this critical role, you will manage the accounting life cycle from end to end, freeing up the CFO to focus on finance-related tasks and capital raising.
You will not only oversee the day-to-day financial operations but also assist the implementation of modern financial systems (Sage X3) and integrate them with our operational tools (MEWS, Expensify). You will manage a certified senior accountant immediately, with the potential to build out a larger team as we scale.

What You'll Do
* Financial Reporting & Close:
Oversee and prepare monthly financial statements, including managing the year-end close process.
* Compliance & Tax:
Ensure strict compliance with IFRS and Portuguese Tax Regulations, and manage all company and tax filings.
* System Implementation:
Assist with implementing a new accounting system (Sage X3), including data migration and managing various accounting integrations, such as MEWS and Expensify.
* Budgeting & Strategy:
Develop and manage budgets, cash forecasts, and internal controls. You will support strategic planning through the use of financial models and analysis.
* Team Leadership:
Supervise the accounting department staff, including a senior certified Accountant, and manage external accounting relationships with tax firms and auditors.
* Cash Flow Management:
Take responsibility for cash flow management and the oversight of electronic payments.
* Operational Support:
Provide financial and budget guidance to various departments and strategic partners, and assist with project management as it relates to the Accounting Department.
What You'll Bring
* Certifications:
You must be a
Portuguese Certified Accountant
. Strongly desirable qualifications: CFA charter with ESG Investing and an advanced PE certificate or CAIA. Preferred: FRM or PRM
* Language Skills:
Proficiency in Written and Verbal communication in both
English and Portuguese
is required.
* Fund & Alternative Investments Experience (Highly Desired):
Experience working with
Private Equity funds
or other types of asset management backgrounds strongly preferred.
* Technical Proficiency:
Strong experience with
Microsoft Excel
and financial systems is required. Experience with the
Sage Platform (X3, 100, etc.)
is highly valued.
* Regulatory Knowledge:
Deep knowledge of
IFRS
and
Portuguese Tax Regulations
.
* Experience:
Proven experience in budget development, cash flow management, and financial reporting. Experience reviewing contracts and supporting due diligence activities is a plus.
* Leadership Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in training and performance management of accounting staff.
