Senior Java Developer – Trading Platform Re-Engineering We're working with a leading financial services client on a major, long-term programme focused on enhancing and future-proofing their high-performance trading platform. This platform is already in live use, supporting real-time trading of financial products, and the client is investing heavily in both stability and innovation to support new features, stronger security, and faster processing.
As part of this expansion, we're looking for senior Java experts who can take responsibility for the re-engineering and evolution of core backend systems. This isn't feature work, it's deep technical ownership. You'll be delivering high-quality, production-grade code that handles concurrency, persistence, and performance under serious load. You'll be expected to work closely with other experienced engineers to analyse existing architecture, identify bottlenecks or risks, and help rebuild key components without introducing instability.
To succeed in this role, you'll need proven experience in Java web services and server-side development, with deep understanding of concurrency, multithreading and secure coding practices. Experience with Java Persistence frameworks like JPA or Hibernate is essential, alongside strong SQL knowledge. Prior exposure to financial systems or trading platforms is a significant advantage. If you've re-architected part of a live platform before — especially one handling real-time data — that's exactly what we're looking for.
This is a full-time, freelance role operating on a hybrid basis in Portugal.
The need is urgent with interviews and technical tests are already underway.
