Call for Competition Procedure for 2 Clinical Biologists/Health Technicians for the Cancer Genetics Group (CI-Lab1) of IPO Porto Research Center

The Board of Directors of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto Francisco Gentil, EPE (IPO Porto) opens a call for 2 clinical biologists/health technicians in the general career – research area, under the research project PI210-CI-IPOP-42-2023-RAS-BRAF " Comparison of the mutational patterns in the RAS and BRAF genes using tumor samples and liquid biopsies during routine predictive biomarker testing in metastatic colorectal cancer and melanoma patients: an observational study ", funded by protocols with the pharmaceutical industry. These positions imply an individual employment contract for 12 months, eventually renewable for another 12 months upon renewal of funding, and will be integrated into the Cancer Genetics Group of the IPO Porto Research Center.
1. Profile of two candidates:
Any national, foreign or stateless candidate who meets the requirements below for one of the positions (1 or 2) in the competition can apply.
Position 1 – clinical biologist/health technician with laboratory and bioinformatics experience in the analysis of tumor samples with next-generation sequencing:
* Master's degree in Molecular Oncology, Molecular Genetics or related areas;
* At least 4 years of experience in the field of Oncogenetics after the Master's Degree, evidenced by an individual employment contract or scholarship contract;
* Extensive laboratory experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) for the detection of somatic mutations in paraffin tumor samples and DNA samples in cell-free circulation;
* Extensive experience in bioinformatic analysis of NGS data, namely in the interpretation of pathogenicity of somatic genetic variants in Oncology;
* At least two scientific publications in international journals indexed in first authorship;
* Excellent command of oral and written English.
Position 2 – clinical biologist/health technician for processing biological samples for analysis by molecular genetics techniques and stock management:
* Degree in laboratory biomedical sciences or related;
* Profile suitable for processing biological samples for analysis by molecular genetic techniques;
* Adequate profile for managing laboratory reagent stocks;
* Reference letters on suitability to the profile indicated above.
Note: If the academic degree has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 18 August, and all the formalities established therein must be complied with until the date of applications.

3. Members of the Jury:
The jury of the competition is composed of:
a) President of the Jury: Prof. Doutor Manuel Teixeira (IPO Porto);
b) Effective Member: Doctor Ana Peixoto (IPO Porto);
4. Start date and place of work:
The start date of the positions is estimated at September 1, 2025 and the place of work is at the shared facilities of Lab 1 of the IPO Porto Research Center and of Laboratory Genetics Service of IPO Porto.
5. Monthly remuneration:
The gross monthly remuneration is €1,442.57.
6. Application process:
The call is open from July 14 to 18, 2025 (23:59 pm), and the application must be sent by email (candidaturas.ci-ipop@ipoporto.min-saude.pt ; manuel.teixeira@ipoporto.min-saude.pt ), indicating the call reference (PI210-CI-IPOP-42-2023-RAS-BRAF) and the position for which it is applying to. Each candidate will only be able to apply for one of the two positions announced. The application submission must include the following documents in PDF format:
* Detailed CV in English;
* Academic degree certificate(s);
* Other documents that the candidate considers relevant to demonstrate that his/her profile fits one of the positions in the call (requirements indicated in section 1).

Note: Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the immediate rejection of the application.
7. Selection criteria:
The selection of candidates will be based on the curricular evaluation and the documentation submitted, taking into account the valuation of the requirements indicated in section 1. The jury may schedule a professional selection interview to help rank the best classified in the documentary curriculum evaluation. The valuation criteria, which are contained in minute no. 1 and can be consulted on request by any interested party, will be evaluated according to the express and unequivocal mention of the criterion in question by the candidate in the Curriculum Vitae and other documentation sent in the application.
After evaluating all eligible applications, the jury will draw up a record of the selection and evaluation process, including the list of successful candidates and the final decision of the jury. The final decision will be validated by the Director of the Institution, who has the final decision on the hiring.
8. Results:
The list of admitted and excluded candidates and the final classification list will be posted at IPO Porto and all candidates will be notified by email.
9. Preliminary hearing and final decision:
Pursuant to Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Procedure, after notification, all candidates have 10 working days to comment. The final decisions of the jury are made within 90 days from the deadline for application.
