The Role:
As part of our strategic growth, we are seeking a Junior Structural Engineer who will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept stage through to Construction. In this role you will work to develop engineering design solutions to meet the Client's needs following these through to the process commissioning stage to ensure the successful outcome of the project.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of this role are outlined as follows:
Design:
Autonomously develop a pipeline of work through engagement with the various project teams.
Provide detailed structural calculations, reports and drawings in compliance with Eurocodes, BS, and industry standards
Be able to undertake technical analysis and optioneering to determine solutions that are constructible and offer value for money.
Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are developed into the proposed designs.
Ensure Designs are developed and delivered in line with Irish Construction Regulations (2013) and the UK CDM Regulations 2015.
Liaise with other disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project.
Contribute as required to events such as Bid Clarifications, Kick-off meetings, HIRAs, Design Reviews, etc.
Project Management & Delivery
Coordinate structural input across multiple design packages in tandem with civil, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines
Manage the tracking and performance of deliverables, this shall include but not be limited to: Pricing design packages, managing lookahead programmes and contributing to monthly cost reports to ensure design costs are tracked appropriately.
Ensure timely delivery of design outputs to meet programme and budget requirements
Complete design solution within set budget and when possible, generate efficiencies against same. Tracking of design costs versus budgets to inform future pricing.
Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a "one team" culture.
Team & Stakeholder Collaboration
Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and client representatives to ensure smooth project execution.
Proficiency in communicating in English and Portuguese.
Mentor and develop junior and graduate engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.
Support the BIM and digital delivery strategy through collaborative model development and coordination.
Site & Client Interface
Attend site visits in Ireland and the UK to carry out inspections, technical assessments, and client meetings.
Provide structural advice during construction stages, including review of method statements and resolution of site queries.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the role are outlined as follows:
Bachelors/MSc Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Chartered Engineer with a relevant Professional Body, ideally the Institution of Structural Engineers
Minimum of 2 years' experience, preferably in the Water & Wastewater sector.
In depth knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel and foundation design.
Temporary works design experience is desirable, but not essential
Experience in Geotechnical Engineering to determine ground conditions suitable for foundation construction
Experience in programme and budget management
Proficiency in structural analysis software.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English
Excellent planning, organisational, training, teamwork, problem resolution and presentation skills
Excellent literacy, numeric and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages
Full Clean European driving licence.
