Scientific Expertise Opportunity
The role of a Clinical Scientist involves joining the biochemistry team, working within a blood sciences department with laboratories in South West Wales.
The biochemistry laboratories have been upgraded with advanced analysers such as Roche COBAS Pro, Radiometer Abl 80, Tosoh G8, Sebia Minicap/Capillarys 3 and Binding Site Optilite.
Key Responsibilities
1. Interpreting test results and discussing their relevance to a patient's clinical condition and treatment.
2. Validating and implementing new methods and assays for routine clinical use.
3. Working independently, adhering to occupational guidelines and policies while remaining accountable to Consultant Clinical Scientists.
4. Identifying priority analyses or referral specimens on clinical grounds and collaborating with Section Managers if necessary.
5. Contributing to medium and long-term service improvement schemes.
6. Participating in discussions on diagnostic implications and strategic planning issues within the department.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* A degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, or related field at Honours level.
* A Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, or related field.
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists specialising in Clinical Biochemistry.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
* Basic knowledge of healthcare specialties, clinical governance, and support services (HR, Finance, R&D).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required for this position. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team is also essential.
