Offer Description
A call for application is now open for the attribution of 1 (one) Research Fellowship under the scheme "MicroHealthChest", funded by the "Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), Programa Temático Inovação e Transição Digital (COMPETE 2030) do Portugal 2030", for 12 months renewable up to a maximum of 33 months including the initial period, starting on 01/10/2025, with the following conditions:
The general objectives of the work are to develop microbial formulations with biostimulant potential, which increase the resilience of chestnut trees to biotic stresses (disease-causing fungi) and abiotic stresses (climatic conditions).
The tasks to be developed fall within the MicroHealthChest project, and consist of:
1. Collection and processing of soil and chestnut tissue samples;
2. Cultural and molecular assessment of the diversity and functional characterization of the chestnut microbiota;
3. Isolation and characterization of microorganisms with chestnut biostimulant potential;
4. Development and in vitro and ex vitro evaluation of microbial formulations with impact on chestnut tree resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses; 5. Assessment of plant response to the application of biostimulants in a semi-controlled environment.

Additional Information
The scholarship amount corresponds to 1.309,64€ according to the table of scholarships awarded by the FCT, I.P. in the country.
The scholarship holder will benefit from a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security Social Security System. The scholarship amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Eligibility criteria
a) Hold a Master's degree in biology, biotechnology or related areas;
b) Be enrolled in a doctorate in the area of biological sciences, biotechnology or related areas, or in a course that does not confer an academic degree as part of the educational project of a higher education institution;
c) Have laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology and bioinformatics.
Selection process
The selection methods to be used will be as follows:
a) quality and suitability of the CV (30%);
b) practical and theoretical knowledge about microbiology, molecular biology and phytopathology (35%);
c) laboratory experience in microbiological analysis, molecular biology and bioinformatics (35%).
If considered necessary, the three best-ranked candidates may be interviewed, with the interview being valued at 30% of the final classification. The jury may not award the scholarship if the candidates' classification is lower than 9.5.
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure.
An appeal may be filed against the final decision to the President of the IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.
Additional comments
Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, and verification of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
