We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to join our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is an excellent opportunity for an automation-focused senior technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and support the success of those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. Job Summary
The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, which are used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Senior SRE & Gitops Engineer, you'll drive operations automation forward, both in our private clouds and in public clouds, utilizing open source infrastructure as code software, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's automation products. Your role includes defining infrastructure as code, providing feedback to developers, collaborating across teams, and supporting a global team of SREs to deliver top-tier services.
Responsibilities
1. Lead development of automation and Gitops practices as an embedded tech lead.
2. Collaborate with IS architect to align solutions with architectural vision.
3. Design and architect services as products for internal use.
4. Advance infrastructure as code practices, increasing automation and efficiency.
5. Automate software operations across private and public clouds, considering distributed system complexities.
6. Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
7. Develop troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance analysis skills, and set up observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
8. Support and collaborate with distributed engineering, operations, and support teams.
9. Dedicate time to larger projects and automation initiatives.
10. Share expertise through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work.
11. Handle time-critical escalations responsibly.
Candidate Profile
* Modern understanding of hosting architecture driven by infrastructure as code in cloud environments.
* Product-oriented mindset focused on developing products rather than just solutions.
* Proficiency in Python, with experience managing large projects.
* Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems.
* Proven ability to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure via code.
* Knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
* Familiarity with Linux storage solutions like Ceph and databases.
* Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux servers.
* Extensive cloud computing knowledge.
* Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field.
* Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
* Motivated troubleshooting skills from kernel to web layers.
* Quick learner, adaptable, and flexible.
* Enthusiasm for fast-changing environments and open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
