The Role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Lead to join our team and oversee one of our cross functional squads. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with modern web technologies, and should have experience leading a small engineering team. You will work closely with the squad, product team, and key stakeholders to develop solutions that solve problems for our customers, as well as coordinate engineering initiatives with other engineering leads.
You should be passionate about writing elegant, well-tested code and delivering high quality products, and enjoy working in a fast paced, growing business.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead Development Squad: Collaborate closely with other squad leads to drive technical direction, architectural decisions, and project success.
* Lead Development Efforts: Take a leadership role in development projects, ensuring adherence to best practices and delivering high-quality solutions.
* Mentorship: Provide mentorship and support to other developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth within the team.
* Strategic Decision Making: Make critical technical and architectural decisions that impact project success, scalability, and efficiency, with a focus on both short-term and long-term goals.
* Effective Problem Solver: Strong problem-solving skills with a history of innovative and effective solutions.
* Adaptability: Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends while maintaining a commitment to quality.
* Collaborative Communication: Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical decisions, mentorship, and architectural choices to both technical and non-technical team members.
Required Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in PHP development, with a strong preference for experience in Symfony or similar frameworks
* Track record of leading engineering teams and contributing to product strategy, delivery planning, and execution
* Experience working closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate business goals into technical solutions
* Deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and experience operating scalable production environments
* Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools, such as Docker (Kubernetes knowledge a plus)
* Familiarity with modern frontend technologies, especially Angular, and how frontend and backend systems interconnect
* Solid understanding of relational databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL, and Redis for caching and state management
* Comfortable overseeing architecture decisions, technical roadmaps, and balancing tech debt vs. feature delivery
* Strong advocate for developer experience, agile practices, and continuous improvement
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a passion for mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams
* Ability to operate with a product mindset - understanding user needs, business impact, and trade-offs in prioritization
