About GWEC
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is the industry association representing the global wind sector. GWEC works with governments, system operators, regulators, multilateral institutions, and industry leaders to accelerate wind deployment as a core pillar of the future electricity system.
A central focus of GWEC's work is the integration of wind into modern power grids, including transmission and distribution planning, power system flexibility, market design, digitalisation, and cross-border interconnection. GWEC engages closely with grid operators, utilities, equipment suppliers, policymakers, and financiers to address system-level challenges and enable large-scale decarbonisation.
Role Purpose
The Commercial Manager/ Business Development Manager– Grids is responsible for driving commercial growth linked to GWEC's grid, power systems, and system integration activities, with a strong focus on membership growth, sponsorship revenue, and strategic partnerships.
The role supports GWEC's grid-related conferences, workstreams, and advocacy by engaging organisations active across the electricity grid value chain — including TSOs, DSOs, utilities, technology providers, EPCs, and system solution companies — and aligning their commercial objectives with GWEC's platforms and influence.

Strong sponsorship revenue linked to grid integration, transmission, flexibility, and power system events and initiatives
Long-term strategic relationships with utilities, system operators, grid technology providers, and regulators
Increased market relevance and visibility of GWEC's work on wind–grid integration and power system transformation
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
Develop and execute a business development strategy focused on electricity grids, power systems, and system integration themes
Identify and secure new members and sponsors active in grid infrastructure, power electronics, digital solutions, storage, and system services
Build commercial partnerships that support GWEC's grid-focused events, studies, and advocacy activities
Membership & Sponsorship Development
Position GWEC as a trusted platform for grid-related dialogue between wind industry players and power system stakeholders
Design and sell sponsorship packages linked to grid integration conferences, workshops, reports, and regional initiatives
Tailor value propositions to the strategic priorities of utilities, TSOs, DSOs, and grid solution providers
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
Develop senior-level relationships with grid operators, utilities, regulators, and technology providers
Act as a commercial interface between industry partners and GWEC's policy, market intelligence, and technical teams
Support collaboration across wind developers, OEMs, and grid stakeholders to address system-level challenges
Market Intelligence & System Trends
Monitor developments in grid planning, transmission expansion, flexibility markets, digitalisation, and system operations
Translate power system and grid trends into compelling commercial opportunities for GWEC and its partners
Reporting & Performance Management
Track and report on revenue performance, membership growth, and sponsorship pipelines
Provide insights on market demand and stakeholder priorities to inform GWEC's grid and systems strategy
Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in business development, partnerships, or commercial roles within the electricity sector, energy infrastructure, or related industries
Strong understanding of electricity grids, power systems, or system integration challenges, particularly in the context of renewable energy
Demonstrated ability to secure high-value sponsorships or strategic partnerships
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with credibility among technical and senior stakeholders
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, international environment
Desirable
Experience working with or selling to TSOs, DSOs, utilities, regulators, or grid technology providers
Knowledge of wind energy integration, transmission planning, flexibility solutions, or power market design
Familiarity with CRM systems and commercial performance tracking
