The Polytechnic of Leiria opens a call for the award of a Master's Research Grant (BIM) within the scope of the
1st Prize + Science, awarded to the IT-IPLeiria Research Unit - Institute of Telecommunications, under the
of the "Prize + Science 2024" funding (Order No. 212/2024), under the following conditions:
SCIENTIFIC AREA: Electrical Engineering
RECIPIENTS: Holders of a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related courses, and who are enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Digitalization Engineering.
DURATION OF THE FELLOWSHIP: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, non-renewable, starting in May 2025.
WORK PLAN: The grantee will develop research activities in methods of analysis and processing of biomedical images based on machine learning algorithms, also considering compressed representations of images.
RECEPTION ENTITY AND SCIENTIFIC GUIDANCE: The work will be developed in the Institute's Leiria Delegation
FINANCIAL COMPONENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP: Monthly maintenance allowance, in the amount of € 1309.64, according to the table of values of FCT, I.P. ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.pdf ). To this amount is added the monthly amount referring to the Voluntary Social Security, if applicable, in accordance with the conditions defined in the Research Grant Holder Statute. The scholarship holder will benefit from Personal Accident Insurance during the course of the scholarship.
PAYMENT: The amount of the scholarship will be processed monthly, by bank transfer, to the account identified by the scholarship holder.
ACTIVITY REGIME: Exclusivity, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 9 to April 23, 2025
SELECTION METHODS AND EVALUATION CRITERIA:The evaluation will be made through curriculum analysis and interview and will focus on the candidate's merit, according to the following:
. (A) Curriculum analysis (40%):
. (A1) Adequacy of the areas of study of academic training to the objectives of the work plan (30%)
(A2) Classification obtained in the degree (20%)
(A3) Classification obtained in the master's degree – curricular part (30%)
(A4) Classification obtained in the master's degree – Dissertation (20%)
(B) Experience in research and innovation activities, including publications in the area for which the call is open, teamwork, participation in R&D projects (20%):
. (D) Interview (35%)
Applying the following formula for calculating the final grade: NF (MC)= [(A1*30% +A2*20% + A3*30% + A4*20%)*40% + B*20% + C*5%+ D*35%]
Note:If the candidate(s) holding a foreign qualification(s) does not present the document(s) proving, in the application phase, the recognition of the foreign degree or diploma and the conversion of the classification to the Portuguese classification scale, the jury establishes the conversion, only for the purposes of the competition, based on the rules of the legal regime applicable to the recognition of foreign degrees and diplomas or, when impossible, it applies the minimum classification of 10 points.
CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY:Without prejudice to the provisions of the rules applicable to each type of scholarship, the following are eligible for scholarships:
a) National citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union;
(b) third-country nationals;
(c) Stateless persons;
d) Beneficiaries of political refugee status.
APPLICATION | FORMALIZATION AND DOCUMENTARY ELEMENTS:Applications must be addressed to the president of the jury and sent by e-mail to the address sergio.faria@ipleiria.pt by sending the application form accompanied by the following documents:
- Document(s) proving the ownership of the academic degree and/or diploma(s) required in the competition, preferably indicating the final average and the grades obtained per curricular unit. Candidates holding foreign qualifications must prove their academic degree and foreign diploma under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August. These documents can be waived, in the application phase, by the declaration of honour contained in the application form, which can only attest to facts that occurred on a date prior to the application, and this condition is only verified at the stage of contracting the grant;
- (optional in the application phase) Document proving enrolment and enrolment in a cycle of studies or course not conferring an academic degree indicated in the application notice;
- Updated curriculum vitae of the candidate;
- Document(s) proving another evaluation parameter(s) indicated in the application notice;
- Other certifications and/or other documents deemed relevant by the candidate
RESULTS | DISCLOSURE AND COMPLAINT:The jury will send to the candidates, by e-mail, the provisional results of the evaluation (presented in the form of the minutes resulting from the evaluation process) up to 90 working days after the deadline for submission of applications. After this disclosure, candidates have 10 working days to comment, if they wish, in a specific form available on the Institutional page and under the terms of the administrative procedure code (CPA). The final decision will be taken within a maximum period of 60 working days after the conclusion of the prior hearing of the interested parties, from which a complaint may be filed within 15 working days, after notification, to the highest executive body of the Polytechnic of Leiria. Within the scope of the procedure for the award of the grant, if the final ranking list, duly approved, contains a number of approved candidates greater than the number of grants to be occupied, an internal recruitment reserve is always constituted, which may be used when there is a need for occupation due to withdrawal of the grantee, under the terms of the CPA, to be used during project eligibility
