BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a dynamic, results driven individual to join as Production Manager at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, facilitate and supervise the daily activities of the production team(s), ensuring that quality, safety, cost efficiency and on-time delivery goals are met
- Direct responsibility to cover delivery schedule
- Identify potential improvements (together with production teams) that reduce COPQ costs annually, improve quality and maximize customer satisfaction
- Ensure the maximum safety, quality, capacity and use of equipment and manufacturing/processing processes
- Participates in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan for Manufacturing Engineering
- Coordinate with other functional departments plans and programs in order to keep all aligned.
- Facilitate efficient and open communication within the department and with other departments in the organization.
- Participate in the introduction of new products and/or modifications to current products (support with production resourcing)
- Ensure development, usage and maintenance of documentation systems
- Support the implementation of new equipment and processes, together with the manufacturing engineer.
- Support launch department to implement new projects.
- Ability to monitor and establish a production schedule that meets the requirements defined in existing programs and designed by customers
- Responsible to present solutions related to production manufacturing to customers
- Drive and give priority to support departments for continuous improvement (e.g. SPQVC)
- Team Leaders management (hiring, development, performance management and succession planning processes)
- Participate in problem-solving activities (example 8D's, 6M's and 5W's) related to safety and quality matters
- Manage daily production inventory & workforce efficiency including continuous improvement plan
- Responsible to identify and implement plans to reduce scrap and rework.
- Establish continuous improvement plans that lead to a more efficient organization
- Responsible for 5S's of the area under his/her responsibility.
- Continuously ensure the improvement of health, safety and environmental conditions
- Participate in the definition, implementation and maintenance of the organization's policies
- Participate in the definition of objectives of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at Work
- Actively participate in the continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Policy, Health and Safety at Work
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety at work standards, policies and practices in accordance with their level of responsibility
- Develop a culture characterized by good professional ethics and involvement in the process among employees in all areas
- Comply with environmental, health and safety, quality and productivity standards
- Comply with the organization's rules and internal regulations Code of Ethics, practice and working period
- Respect workplace safety and cleanliness rules
- Perform other tasks not included in the activity for which they were hired, when the needs or convenience of service so warrant, for the period necessary for the aforementioned needs or convenience of service
Education & Experience
- Degree in Engineering or in a related technical area
- Minimum 3 years of experience related to production management (preferable)
- Experience with automotive industry standards
- Previous experience in production launches/programs or equivalent (preferable)
- Available to travel with minimal notification in urgent situations
- Knowledge of quality tools and Lean methods
- Previous experience leading & developing production teams
- Skills in the following domains 5Why's, FMEA, SPC, Time and Motion Analysis, basic financial and cost analysis
- Communication skills, both written and verbal
- Basic problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of effective health, safety and ergonomics practices and concepts
- Fluent in Portuguese
- Fluent in English (mandatory)
