The Universidade da Beira Interior invites applications for a part-time (65%) Visiting Assistant
Professor position in the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), within the disciplinary area of
Civil Engineering - Course Unit Group: "Mechanics and Structures". The contract will begin on
1 March 2026 and end on 31 July 2026.
Only candidates holding a PhD in Civil Engineering or in a related scientific field are eligible. Scientific and teaching experience in the areas of Structural Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Structural.

Role Description
The Visiting Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering – "Mechanical and Structures" will be responsible for providing high-quality teaching and contributing to the academic development of the department in the areas of mechanical and structural engineering. Responsibilities include delivering lectures, preparing course materials, supervising student projects, conducting assessments, and contributing to research initiatives. The role also involves active participation in academic committees and collaboration with colleagues to enhance the academic environment. This is a contract-based, on-site position located in Covilhã, Portugal.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge and expertise in Mechanical and Structural Engineering concepts;
Proven ability to deliver engaging and effective teaching and lectures in Civil Engineering-related topics;
Proficiency in research methodologies and a track record of academic publications in relevant fields;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to mentor and guide students;
Commitment to academic integrity, social responsibility, and fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment;
A PhD in Civil Engineering;
Experience in collaborative interdisciplinary projects or work within academia and industry is an asset.
