About the Role
The Librarian will be responsible for managing the school library, creating an engaging and welcoming environment for learning and research. Key responsibilities include:
Library Management
* Manage student behaviour in the library.
* Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including cataloguing, shelving, and organising materials.
* Maintain an up-to-date and well-organised collection of books, periodicals, digital resources, and multimedia materials.
* Enforce library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all users.
Collection Development
* Assess the needs and interests of students and staff to curate a diverse and relevant library collection.
* Stay current with educational trends and emerging technologies to enhance the library's resources.
* Regularly remove outdated or irrelevant materials to maintain a fresh and valuable collection.
Reader Services
* Collaborate with leaders and teachers to raise the profile of reading and plan whole school reading experiences.
* Promote a love for reading by organising book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
* Assist students in selecting age-appropriate reading materials based on their interests and reading levels.
* Create displays and promotional materials to highlight library resources and encourage usage.
* Ensure the library is a quiet and welcoming place for students studying and during break and lunchtimes.
Collaboration and Outreach
* Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver instruction that aligns with classroom objectives.
* Actively engage with the school community by participating in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and faculty meetings.
* Work with parents who can support the library and its activities.
Requirements
* Fluency in English and Portuguese.
* Excellent library management skills, including cataloguing, classification, and collection development.
* Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature.
* Excellent research and information literacy skills.
* Ability to use a variety of library technologies and digital resources.
* Effective communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
* Ability to manage student behaviour and create a positive learning environment.
* A passion for reading and a commitment to promoting literacy.
* Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
* The ability to work independently and take initiative.
* A commitment to fostering a love of learning and intellectual curiosity in students.
* A commitment to providing inclusive and equitable access to library resources.

* A recognised qualification in Librarianship or Information Science.
* Experience working in an international school environment.
* Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
