The Executive Board of the Association of Instituto Superior Técnico for Research and Development (IST-ID) took a decision to open an international selection competition for one doctorate position for the exercise of activities in the scientific area(s) of Economics and Management in the form of an employment contract under an unspecified fixed-term work contract under the "Código do Trabalho" (Labor Code), aiming at the development of generic and innovative methodologies for the management of the blood supply chain within the scope of the project LAIfeBlood+ - Data Science for Blood Management, reference 2024.07475.IACDC.
These methodologies will serve to:the short-term operational replanning of blood collection, production, storage, and distribution to address changes from the initial plan caused by operational uncertainty (until 30/06/2025); integrated vendor-managed inventory, allowing blood centers to manage blood inventories in an integrated manner throughout the entire system, from collection to distribution to hospitals (until 30/09/2025); the validation and integration of the tools with the systems of the Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação (the blood supply chain management public institution in Portugal, IPST; until the end of the contract).Decision-support tools will be developed based on historical data from IPST and optimization approaches (optimization models, multi-objective models, and heuristics) to improve blood supply chain planning.
Additionally, support will be provided in supervising master's and/or doctoral students associated with the project's various tasks.4.
