Job Title: Design Engineer – OTN Network Design & PlanningLocation: Lisbon, Portugal (Hybrid – office & remote)Contract Type: Contract (Initial 6 months, extendable long-term)About the RoleWe are seeking experienced Design Engineers specialising in Optical Transport Networks (OTN) to join a telecommunications services company delivering large-scale network projects.Based in Lisbon, this role offers a hybrid working model with a combination of remote work and on-site collaboration with engineering teams.
The contract will initially run for 6 months, with strong potential for long-term extension aligned with customer project timelines.You will play a key role in the design, planning, and technical evolution of high-capacity optical transport networks, supporting both internal engineering teams and major telecom customers.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign OTN network architectures and topologies for large-scale transport networksPerform capacity planning and network dimensioning to support traffic growth and service requirementsDefine engineering rules, design standards, and resiliency modelsConduct optical feasibility studies and support technology selection including:100G / 400G / 800G transport technologiesROADM-based optical networksZR / ZR+ pluggable opticsProvide technical expertise and engineering input for RFPs and vendor selection processesWork with vendors and internal stakeholders on solution design and validationProvide expert-level support to integration, deployment, and operations teams during project implementationContribute to network design documentation and engineering guidelinesRequired Skills & ExperienceStrong experience in OTN network design and planning within telecommunications environmentsProven experience designing optical transport network architecturesExperience with capacity planning and optical network dimensioningHands-on knowledge of Huawei OptiX OSN **** platformsUnderstanding of modern optical technologies including:100G / 400G / 800GROADM architecturesZR / ZR+ coherent pluggablesExperience contributing to technical proposals, RFPs, or vendor evaluationsAbility to work collaboratively with engineering, integration, and operations teamsDesirable ExperienceExperience working on large telecom operator or service provider networksFamiliarity with multi-vendor optical transport environmentsExperience supporting network deployment and operational troubleshootingWhat We OfferOpportunity to work on large-scale telecom network projectsHybrid working model (remote + Lisbon office collaboration)Initial 6-month contract with strong potential for long-term extensionCompetitive contract day rateIf you're an experienced OTN Design Engineer looking to contribute to next-generation optical network deployments, we'd love to hear from you.
