Exide Technologies' Energy Solutions division is developing and manufacturing stationary energy storage batteries, from backup power to large-scale storage systems (BESS and C&I). Exide ´s technology portfolio spans from multiple lead-acid over to lithium-ion technologies supporting the global energy transition and digitalization. Our storage systems are used in UPS, Telecom, Datacenters, Public Transport, in Front-of- and Behind-the-Meter applications and many more.
About the job:
For our fast-growing division Energy Solutions in Castanheira do Ribatejo, Portugal at the earliest possible date we are looking for a: R&D Engineer Electrical Development.
Reporting to the Department Manager, you will play a key role within the R&D team, contributing your hands-on, analytical, and technically strong engineering expertise to the development, testing, and verification of advanced battery systems. You will collaborate with suppliers, interpret technical standards, drive test development, and support the integration of next-generation energy storage solutions.
What will your daily responsibilities include in this role?
Contribute to engineering development activities, providing guidance on testing strategies and planning—including root cause analysis, data analysis, test setup design, and identification of external testing opportunities.
Lead the design, development, and integration of our grid-connected battery systems, supporting both ongoing and new product initiatives.
Ensure product verification and compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements across multiple countries.
Manage supplier relationships, including supplier performance oversight and implementation of change management processes.
Define and implement comprehensive test programs to ensure product reliability, safety, and performance.
Maintain and oversee system documentation and certification for all battery system products.
Engage with suppliers and customers to ensure product functionality aligns with technical requirements and customer expectations.
What we ask for:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering.
Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, instrumentation, and measurement techniques.
Experience with E-plan and electronic/electrical design, including the use of electronics simulation tools such as LTSpice.
Practical knowledge of structured fault analysis, including the 8D methodology.
Strong affinity with power electronics, particularly inverter design, battery management systems (BMS) and high-voltage systems (considered a strong plus).
Ability to interpret technical standards and translate them into clear, testable requirements.
3–5 years of experience in test development within technical or engineering environments.
Familiarity with modern software development practices, such as unit testing, continuous integration, and Git (a plus).
English level C1 required.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Availability to travel within Europe.
Ability to work in international and multicultural scenarios.
