Overview
The Accounting Manager will oversee financial operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards. This role requires expertise in the financial services/asset management sector.
Our client is a large organization within the financial services industry, recognized for its expertise in asset management.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage bundled accounting operations (accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, intercompany) for all AM local and division.
* Oversee day-to-day journal postings, reconciliations, AP/AR processing, vendor payments, and receivables management; manage month-end and year-end closings according to AM/Group deadlines.
* Supervise fixed asset accounting processes: capitalization, depreciation, and disposals.
* Manage workflow/ticketing systems to monitor accounting service requests.
* Act as the main escalation point for transactional issues raised by local or divisional teams.
* Ensure accuracy of intercompany settlements and reconciliations.
* Support divisional consolidation and IFRS compliance by providing accurate accounting data.
* Maintain a strong internal control environment and support internal and external audits.
* Monitor KPIs and SLAs to track and improve AM Portugal accounting performance.
* Drive automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives in accounting workflows.
* Apply Lean and RPA tools to increase efficiency.
* Collaborate with IT, Finance, and Transformation teams on ERP enhancements and finance system projects.
* Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of accountants and specialists in the AM Portugal environment.
* Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and service orientation across AM Portugal Accounting.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in financial services, particularly in asset management/banking/financial services.
* Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
* Excellent leadership and team management skills.
* Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
* A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
* Chartered accountant is a plus.
