OverviewBW Energy is an independent oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) company operating in key regions such as Gabon, Namibia, and Brazil. The Global Sustainability Manager role will be critical in driving the company's environmental, social, and governance efforts, ensuring compliance with international standards and strengthening its position as an industry leader.ResponsibilitiesAct as an in-house expert on sustainability, defining policies, strategies and implementing industry best practices based on frameworks like IOGP, API and Ipieca.Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)Manage and/or oversee environmental approval processes and ESIA across all assets.Coordinate the implementation of action plans to mitigate environmental and social impacts and ensure compliance with local and international laws, regulations and industry best practices.Environmental and Social Performance and ReportingDefine and oversee annual objectives and KPIs across all assets.Coordinate and monitor environmental and social performance across all assets.Consolidate, analyse and disclose environmental and social data and prepare regular performance reports to internal and external stakeholders.Improve reporting tools and systems, enhancing sustainability data automation and integration.Develop annual sustainability reports, aligned with GRI and TCFD frameworks.Greenhouse Gas Emissions ManagementMaintain and improve methodologies for calculating and reporting Scope 1 and 2 emissions, aligned with IOGP, API and Ipieca guidelines.Conduct GHG emissions estimates and forecasts for various projects.Support the identification and implementation of emission reduction strategies.Define mid- to long term reduction targets and track performance progress against targets.Finance and Legal SupportFacilitate technical reviews and negotiations related to environmental and social due diligence for financing agreements.Facilitate environmental and social audits, particularly for projects financed by institutions aligned with World Bank and IFC standards, and the Equator Principles.Oversee environmental aspects in project planning and design, including support for production operations.Collaborate closely with internal departments (e.g. finance, operations, drilling) and external entities (e.g. consultants, partners and lenders) to achieve sustainability goals.Oversee and approve environmental and social projects based on the company sustainability investment strategy and on local community's needs.Coordinate and implement sustainability communication strategies, campaigns and workshops.Promote environmental and social awareness throughout the organization.Qualifications EducationMaster's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related field.ExperienceMinimum of 10 years' experience working in related fields of expertise.Experience in the oil and gas industry, ideally in upstream operations.Experience in Sustainability and Environmental fields and ESG reporting.Previous experience from a multinational company is an advantage.Previous experience as a team leader is an advantage.Interpersonal SkillsPassion for safety, environmental protection, and sustainable development.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate across organizational boundaries.Team player, with the ability to lead.Ability to think strategically and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.Solid organizational and analytical skills, as well as attention to detail.Proactive and able to work independently.Able to multi-task and reprioritize work as needed.Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.KnowledgeGood knowledge of Sustainability frameworks and standards, such as API, IPIECA, IOGP, GRI, and TCFD.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Power Point.Proficiency in environmental data modelling and analysis, especially regarding GHG emissions.Fluent in English (oral and written).French or Portuguese is a plus.What we offerThe opportunity to join a dynamic and globally impactful environment.The opportunity to lead strategic initiatives in different international markets.Competitive salary package and market-aligned benefits.Other The role is based in Portugal and requires interface with the BW Energy teams in Gabon, Brazil, Namibia, and the BW Energy Corporate offices in Houston, Norway, and Singapore.
